Let's see if we can make a top ten list. The first ones that come to mind for me are, in no particular order:
All In The Family
Cheers
The Andy Griffith Show
South Park
The Office
Three's Company
Law and Order
Dexter
The Brady Bunch
Gilligan's Island
The Beverly Hillbillys
The Flintstones
The Jetsons

Good picks. What I really want to do is narrow the list down to ten, maybe five themes that are unmistakable. The final list should consist of themes that almost anyone can hear and immediately associate with a show, avid TV watcher or not. That probably takes South Park and Dexter off, but the instant I hear the first couple of notes from those songs, I know exactly what I'm hearing.

Welcome Back Kotter should be top of the list.

I'm aware that I'm not the TV God, and tons of people might recognize that theme, but I have no idea what it sounds like.
My early pick is the Andy Griffith Show. Everyone I know recognizes that.

AGS or GTFO
If there's a second, I'd pick the Batman theme.

Saved by the bell has to be in there. I agree with Friends too

First of all. Without question, the #1 on the permanent list should be:
The Fresh Prince of Belair
Then mine are:
Growing Pains
Who's The Boss
Andy Griffith
The Fall Guy
Greatest American Hero
Cheers
Scooby Doo:Where Are You?
Flintstones
Full House
I don't list a lot of the more recent shows as, with DVR tech, I ff through the openings everytime and don't hear the songs like I used to.

I love that one but I wouldn't consider it a theme song.

Yep. And for those saying "The Office," I don't even a clue what that theme song sounds like. So I disagree.
