latest OFA email to me.

..."are you on the team?"

Kinda intimidating. Maybe because I haven't 'chipped in.'

It sounds like they found out you were trolling them but really it's just a PR ploy to get money.

Are you joking? Seriously, I got a letter from the IRS today saying I owe $860 from 2011. I've never gotten a letter from the IRS.

I don't even do my own taxes. My accountant does and he's on vacation for the holidays.

I'm serious as a heart attack. I got the letter from the IRS today. My first thought was just to write a check to end it all but I checked my 2011 return and I don't see any money owed to the IRS.
I called my accountant and he is gone for the week. My deadline for paying is Jan. 15. Then they are going to do something really bad to me.
This is gonna be some great drama but I don't know if it has anything to do with my dissing OFA.

I got the very same e-mail at 12:41 PM today.

Then just a few minutes ago I got another one saying "If you know someone who's recently enrolled in the health care marketplace, we're looking for stories that show why this work matters."

Like yourself, I have never donated a cent of course. But I stay on their mailing list because I enjoy observing the desperation in most of their messages.

Bite your tongue!!!

Give 'em a call. I've gotten several letters like that over the years. One year I called them and got a "Oh, never mind. There's not a problem."

The IRS has some real pieces of work on the payroll. You'd almost think they're DMV washouts.

What's up with the $3 request. They're always asking me for 3 bucks. Never 2; never 4.

You must be talking about employer pressure to contribute to United Way.

I never got any employer pressure for United Way. We got a notice every year and no follow up if you did not contribute.

You may not think so but they hold it against you.

Probably. But it would only be No. 23 on the long list of things they held against me.

I'm pressured every year and I hate it.

Some of the charities that UW funds have insane overhead and very little of my donation gets to where I want it to be. They are really one of the worst ways I could give IMO.

I much prefer St Jude or Red Cross.

You'll have to prove your point. I was with the same company for 41 years and not once did I get some kind of ultimatum as you indicate. Actually, it was kind of funny. They would hand them out at work and the majority of us would trashcan the cards right in front of the boss.

The company eventually starting mailing them to us. I guess they were tired of overfilled trash cans.
