I really did. That's why your statement was great.

Also, ive got a UT fan in my office today. So i asked him to rank who he'd rather have at UT. His list was this:

Saban
Malzahn
Spurrier
Miles/Sumlin
etc.

Just an outsider's perspective.

I believe you totally. I bet you were also in the locker room before 1/9 to see the epic meltdown that made our team quit.

Well that changes everything. Oh wait, no it doesn't.

My bias is what have you done on the field. Coincidentally LSU has been one of the best the last 10 years, so it just happens to work out that our coach is near the top.

Some dope from UT doesn't really invalidate that.

Miles is 2nd Tier/Tied for 2nd. I think Saban is pretty much on his own level so basically we're "playing for 2nd place" when it comes to head coaches. But I also think that any of the 2nd tier coaches on my list are capable of winning a NC any given year (except maybe Franklin but that's only because he's at Vandy w/limited resources).
So here's my list:

Saban

Miles/Spurrier/Malzahn/Franklin

Sumlin/Richt/Pinkell

Mullen/Freeze/Muschamp

Jones/Stoops/Bielema

Eta: I see a lot of debate about Spurrier vs. Miles and I honestly think its a wash. Anyone that thinks Miles is goofy/dumb/crazy and loves Spurrier is a hypocrite because that ole bastard is every bit as goofy as Miles. He has his old school country twang accent and says all kinds of off the wall shite to the media (more so than Miles). Also, both of their career records are very similar and the only honest tie breaker IMO is that Miles has beaten Spurrier handily every time they've gone h2h. I think Spurrier is a great coach but I think the game has passed him by a little. He's still a great HC but the CFB landscape is so much different now than it was in the 90's when he was kickin arse down at UF.

Also, I see Sumlin getting a lot of love but he has to win without JFF before I'll consider him an elite coach. Right now he's a lot like Chizik was w/Cam Newton. And his defenses at aTm have been pretty terrible. But I still think he's a good coach based on what he did at Houston. He just has to prove he can do it in the SEC now.

Why do my fellow LSU fans insist on ranking their own head coach below 2 SEC coaches that have yet to beat Les Miles, and one that hasn't played him yet?

This site is a bizzorro world of stupidity.

Spurrier has won 6 SEC championships and 1 national championship. His NCAA record is 218–79–2 for a 73.4%. (Not sure how to figure in the two ties.)

Miles has won 2 SEC championships and 1 national championship. His NCAA record is 122-45 for a 7.31%.

I'm not a Miles hater...but just when you look at their records, it's hard to say which one is the better of these two over the long run.

We are basing this on the product of what Spurrier is as a coach with South Carolina, not what he did over 15 years ago. That was another time, that was a coach in his prime.

You guys are cracking me up with your LSU bias. Miles is better than Spurrier?

You guys must be too young to remember the SEC dynasty of the 90's. Now Spurrier's at a historically terrible football program, turned them around and made them a top 10 team 2 years in a row, and you guys think because LSU beat him (with twice the talent) then that makes Miles a better on-field coach. Any other message board would laugh you off the computer.

It baffles me that some of you can't wrap your head around the concept of "game-day coach", excluding other variables like talent and recruiting.

The fact that you used something almost 20 years ago as your explanation of a whole new college football landscape is baffling. Dude still hasn't won shite a South Carolina and has been there since Miles came to LSU. Would you use Bowden's record to consider him a better coach during the 21st century, when all his best success was in the 90s? What about Paterno in his waning years? Lou Holtz in his time with South Carolina.

Stop looking at shite people accomplished in what is basically a whole other time ago in college football. You guys kill me with this shite.

Based on results Miles is #2 or three behind Saban and possibly Spurrier...I'd rather have Miles...

This game day coach issues Miles supposedly has is so overblown...Every coach has these clock management issues at times during their career...
Saban, spurrier, bellicheck, Peyton, it happens to all of them from time to time...
No one remembers the 20 times it's handled well...
All these tards who put Miles below three all are biased and just hate Miles...they find something wrong regardless
I also laugh at the people who write things about teams with less talent/more talent etc like acquiring the talent is not part of being a good coach...

#7.

Thankfully, Coach Miles is in fertile recruiting territory and wins despite himself, most of the time.

I'm not a Miles hater, but wholeheartedly believe he is a decent coach (not great, or elite by any stretch).
