The Real Value of Ryan Anderson

GREAT article demonstrating how the team has improved because of Anderson. Includes some video and a couple of data tables. Also a fair look at the team from a non fan.

New Orleans played its first nine games of the season without the 25 year-old sharpshooter, but the narrative barely noticed. After the Pellies opened 3-6 this year, stories centered on Davis’s development during a disappointing start and big picture organizational questions that clouded the future. Was Jrue Holiday really worth two first-round picks? Would three-guard lineups – featuring Holiday, Eric Gordon, and much-maligned free agent acquisition Tyreke Evans – ever figure it out? How safe was Monty Williams?
Valid or otherwise, those concerns ignored the crucial context of Anderson’s injury. Expecting the young and revamped Pelicans to take off running this season was irrational; assuming they’d do so without the full extent of their core available was downright irresponsible.
Considering the circumstances, that New Orleans is .500 in mid-December is cause for minor celebration. Playing just one extended stretch without Anderson or Davis should be a losing proposition, but two in as many months? It wouldn’t shock if the Pelicans were dead in the water by now. That’s an understanding lost on most, though, indicative of the NBA world’s error in assessing Anderson’s worth.
quote:
The irony is that popular narrative is bound to swing Anderson’s way soon enough. His raw stats since returning from injury befit a household name: 21.7 PPG, 47.7% 3PT FGs, and 97.3% FTs. Should Anderson maintain this blistering shooting pace, he’ll even garner faint All-Star consideration come February. The more likely scenario, though, eventually calls for natural regression and typical devaluation of his overall stock.
But even as Anderson’s numbers come back to earth, his impact on the Pelicans will remain otherworldly. The all-encompassing effects of high-volume, high-accuracy shooters align perfectly with those of their pick-and-roll busting, rim-protecting defensive counterparts, but the basketball public has been slow to accept that reality. When that necessary shift comes, Anderson will be the momentum behind it.

everyone has said it before, asik's value plummeted this year. His contract is way too heavy for someone of his skillset and houston wants too much for him.
No one in the west is dumb enough to give them an essential piece to their team and alleviate them of a bad contract.

Ryan Anderson for MVP. Numbers back it up. I'll start the chants.

Only by folks on this board. His value hasn't dropped in the eyes of NBA gms. His lack of production is due to an all-star center playing in front of him, not a declining skill set.

It's not his value that's dropped, it's Houston's leverage that has declined. They have a self imposed deadline on a player they are trying to dump. I don't think offers are going to go up much as the deadline approaches. Most of the rumored teams in contention seem to be pretty bad fits too, either as a destination or with what the asking price is. Cavs and Bucks are the only ones that make much sense.

When AD gets back the front court minutes should be split up as follows:
36 AD
36 Ryno
24 Smith
Steamroll should get 12 minutes when we play other big centers.
AD/Ryno should always be on the floor to close out the game.

ill rephrase, like ^ said its their leverage.
GMs want him, but houston asks for so much in return. They know houston is taking an arse kicking if they were forced to keep him on their team going into next year as well.

except for the fact that he is malcontent.

No, it has. Rockets aren't going to get anywhere near what they want for him.

Yeah that means nothing.
I agree with ATL that Houston's leverage has dropped somewhat but not by much. He will be gone next week.

They aren't expecting to get Kevin Durant. I'm sure they will get close to what they want for him.

Anyone actually bother to read Lowes article on Asik?
Point blank says gms know how good he is on defense, but they dont like either the balloon payment, Morey's asking price, the fit offensively, Morey's means of subverting the CBA to sign him, and/or the fact that they know Houston is trying/has to dump him
Most of the article is spent talking about how under valued Asik would have been even 5 years ago. Not whether Asik is any good (he is and he pretty much guarantees an elite defense when he's on the floor).

I've asked this before but no response... Asik will only be 8.5M against the cap number next season, the other 7M go where exactly?

To get away from the thread jacking and back to how great Anderson is

Sure, whatever you say. He refused to play a game. GMs took notice.
Seperately the OP article is from Hardwood Paroxysm-one of the best NBA sites out there.
