And you're underestimating the amount of money Alabama boosters have. Of course UT has more money, but if you don't think Bama boosters have enough money to cover the debt, then you are blinded by your desire to see Saban leave.
Which is why I was very careful to pair it with desperation UT has that you guys don't.
Again, I'm not convinced LSU benefits from Saban leaving. Yes, I want to see you guys meltdown, but I don't think LSU benefits either way.
Bama could have locked Saban up forever had they cleared all this debt previously. They didn't, UT apparently has...c'est la vie.

Are the only boosters wealthy enough to buy up Saban's debt from UT? No boosters from Bama could possibly have that kind of money, right?
Oh, gee, lets see. Maybe if the $25MM debt in question is for land in HOUSTON and you've got several dozen boosters with the ability to assume that debt that live in HOUSTON and know the market far, far, far better WITH the ability/patience to see the debt through maturation than some jackleg in Dothan or Birmingham or some such place.
Doesn't make it hard to imagine at all.

It isn't like this debt appeared today.
Why didn't they deal with it when he extended it the last time?
Why would Alabama agree to do that? They already had Saban. Paying off that debt would put the contract value at a ridiculous amount that Alabama shouldn't have entertained at that time.

AAAAANNNNDDD - per TheDoc in other posts, "$40MM" paid by UT boosters as down payment. Let's see. $25MM in Houston plus $14MM in Rouzan = what number?
Connect the dots, bro

You should have because of this very situation. I understand Alabama not just offering without reason, but now the reason has come along and it has likely cost you your coach.

I really didn't think it was 40 until I found out yesterday. It all makes sense though.

Good question....but then again IIRC he's always waited to sign contracts while at Bama.
In Georgia today recruiting in case you're wondering.

If he stays, I'll eat my crow. But I'm pretty certain it won't be me eating shite.

No, because once you set the bar there is always somebody out there willing to raise it. No such thing as locking Saban in. What would they have done, added a clause saying he has to pay it back if he leaves? Then Texas comes in and pays it off anyway.

Yes, it begins to make sense once one [fanbase] pulls his head out of the sand... it certainly is plausible.

stating some big wigs at UT have recently paid off Saban's debt as a "down payment" towards his new coaching salary/position at UT.
Rich folks don't stay rich by paying off debts of someone on a verbal promise to do anything.
No debts have been paid off. Not even sure that would be legal since it would be taxable income... no way to really hide it working for a public institution.
LSU fans want this soooooooo bad but it is really time for a little perspective. Saban could go to UT but to think debts have already been paid by UT boosters is really DUMB. Actually waaaaay beyond dumb.

He could have waited for another offer to leverage against UA for more money, who knows. I honestly don't think he wants to leave you guys, but I think his debt may have pushed him to make a move for his family's future.
I certainly could be wrong, but looking at all the massive crap floating around the past week, I'm leaning towards him at UT.

You people are sadly pathetic.
CC Board trolls and people with your "inside" knowledge on someone's personal or even quasi-public financial dealings.
All of you with your "in" comments and popcorn gifs.
Also, I won't bother reading your meltdown when he stays because I already know what it will be like - your character here is depicted daily for all to see so it'll be nothing new.
Enjoy.

I do not know whether Saban will stay or go. I have no contacts or inside information, but here is why I do not believe this particular theory:
1. I do not believe for one minute that Nick Saban would ever allow himself to be under someone else's thumb. The idea that he would let big money boosters use him like a puppet is not in keeping with anything he has ever done.
2. No one, and I mean NO ONE, with a lick of business sense got rich by throwing millions upon millions of dollars away, or buying something frivolous that costs that much. Paying that kind of money, whether it was one booster or multiple boosters, does not sound like an investment. That's a very big gamble. Even bigger than Texas-sized. Especially if they are not getting a return, just the program.
3. All this speculation and these supposed leaks are exactly the things that Saban seems to hate dealing with. Apparently, Texas and its boosters are micromanagers. Saban is the only micromanager of his program.
It's great for a conspiracy theory, and it might have some truth to it, but it is hard to logically conceive.

I was told these people don't work for UT. They are just boosters. Texas oil guys.
