re: All joking aside, if Saban does leave this will look terrible in the public eye.

Saban is fed up with the Alabama fan bullshite. He wants to go to Texas and be treated like he was when he arrived in Tuscaloosa in 2007. He'll be treated that way by Texas fans until he builds them back up and they expect 14-0 every season. Then he'll probably retire.

tarnish his legacy.
Everybody already knows he's a liar.
Bama fans excuse it because they are averaging 12 wins a year since he got there.
It's as simple as that.

no but at this point how many people really think of him that way outside south Louisiana and south Florida?

Let's be honest here. He has to tell recruits that. You think Miles was telling recruits he was leaving for LSU while still recruiting for the Cowboys? These coaches are in a bad situation and they can't tell recruits that they maybe at another school. What if that job falls through? I don't like, but it is what it is.

Just perusing the rivals national board and twitter, a lot of people do. It's a running joke that he can't get away from.

On the hand, his credibility would be shot for the rest of his life
What is there not to be credible about? "Hey guys most likely I 'll stay with you for about seven years or less but in the mean time proably win some Crystal balls while we are at it, whadda ya say?"
His winning records speaks for itself. He could shite on Alabama, flick off Texas, tell LSU so suck his dick and colleges like USC, OHio, Oreggon, Michigan would pick him up in a heart beat if given the chance.
Only one thing matters, Winning, everything else is secondary or a consolation prize.
Les miles, he doesn't win as much as we like but he wins enough where we as LSU fans are ok with it.

He lied before and people who wanted to forgave him because he is a tremendous coach who knows how to put together a championship program.
What's he supposed to say? "I'm thinking about leaving because they can offer me enough money to buy Tahiti" The story goes away to some small extent if he disputes it as credible. Can you imagine if this excitement lasted weeks instead of days?

Time and winning healed it. Give him 5 years and 1 titles in Austin(whichever comes 1st) and it returns to the backburner.

Let's be real here: he backed into more than one of those trophies.
Posted on 12/10/13 at 11:59 pm to saintsfan22
Will you be here when he stays?

quote:Absolutely. I just posted something on the Bama board. If Saban were to leave, it will be ugly. There's just no graceful exit possible at this point, and that's really a shame. That being said, he ain't going anywhere.
He's spent seven years trying to live down that comment from when he was at the Dolphins. Now, he has specifically gone out of his way on 60 Minutes, Sportscenter w/ Tom Rinaldi, and FS1 w/ Erin Andrews, and said he wasnt leaving. If he leaves, his legacy and reputation are forever in tatters. He'd be really stupid to do that to himself.

The only one he backed into the was 2011 LSU one..other then that he went through everyone and smashed face.
More like he backed it up.
More like he backed it up.

Outside of 2011, how did he back into any trophies? Because his teams weren't undefeated? That is literally the dumbest argument I've ever heard. If that's the case, half of the BCS champions (and perhaps half of all national champions in history) have "backed into" their titles.

We aren't debating whether or not a program will take Saban; of course they will. It's his reputation, his credibility, his legacy that could be damaged by another money grab preceded by numerous lies to the fans. Does he want to live through all that again? That's what I'm wondering.

He lost to us last year and needed 3 teams to lose on the last weekend of the season in order to get a shot. Do you not watch college football?

i think it comes down to two things, 1) his age and 2) why make a lateral move? Every stop in his career made at least some sort of logical sense at the time. But now it's literally moving from one college power to another just to do it. That doesn't make any sense at all.
the move makes sense in several ways:
1) Texas can offer more money with the LHN ownership included.
2) Texas can offer him the chance to be the first coach to win a national championship at three different major programs.
3) Texas gets him out of the SEC and into a conference where he can win it more than 50% of the time instead of around once every three plus years.
4) The college playoff starting next year will likely give the conference champions from major conferences a bid every year instead of giving at large bids. That reaffirms the importance of reason #3 - it is easier to win national championships at Texas
5) Saban enjoys building a program more than maintaining a program. He's matured as a coach and doesn't shite on every reporter any more but he still tires of hero worship and loves building a foundation of success more than being worshiped on the altar of that success.
6) Recruiting will be easier. He will retain access to Louisiana recruiting inroads and will expand more thoroughly into Texas... probably much to the detriment of OU, A&M, and to a lesser extent LSU and Arkansas.
