Yeah I feel the same way
But Seattle is shaping up to have a nice team in a few years. They really needed a bat to build around. Who better than Cano I guess

@ESPNStatsInfo: Robinson Cano agrees to 10-year contract with Mariners. His 34.2 Wins Above Replacement over last 5 seasons are most by a position player

Thanks. Forgot about that one.

In terms of production, I think Arod easily was worth his first contract. But he was 25 when he signed that one, not 31 like Cano is.

It's impossible to put into words how little I care about major league baseball, and I can't think of a single friend or acquaintance that does. I think MLB fandom is dropping fast in the younger generation and this absurdity doesn't help

Cano will be 41 when this contract is up.
Forty fricking one.
ETA: Yeah, I know I'm the math genius in this thread.

So who is trading for Nick Franklin now? Franklin, Paxton, and others for Matt Kemp with the Dodgers picking up some of the contract?

This is going to keep happening. Teams that do this are going to continue to come up short with results.

They could definitely use another bat or two.

Eventually they're going to learn.

This just screams dumb move. It will ne nice for 2-3 years then Cano will drop off like crazy and they're stuck with $180 million.
Its not like there aren't a myriad of examples to draw from here.
