re: Many NFL Players Want Thursday Games To Disappear

The Thursday games are about money. Bars have another night of football so they can make more money, which leads to more beer sales, which leads more beer ads on NFL games.

The Big Bang Theory > Texans/Jaguars
I'm just as likely to watch a college game as I am to watch an NFL game, on Thursdays only.

I mean, I understand from a player and coach perspective... but from a fan perspective, why would you not like more football?
It's called overkill or oversaturation.
Think about bowl season. Most people watch the first 3-4, get sick of them around Christmas, and then watch the big ones on New Years. It's too freaking much and I have to have some kind of life outside of football. At some point somebody in my family is going to want to watch something else.
That's how I feel about football. I'm busy on Thursday trying to finish my week. Besides, I'm about to get involved for 72 hours straight.

Do you watch every game on Sunday?

well yeah people in let's say LA aren't forced to watch a Boston College/Iowa bowl, so why do they?
if you just watch teams you care about, you won't feel any overkill, but that should be obvious

The Thursday games dilute the NFL product. The rushed short week schedule is typically apparent in the quality of play in the Thursday games

I watch the SNF game off and on on my computer. If it's a good game I watch on TV. If not, I spend time with my family.

So, why don't they just let teams play their Thursday game after a bye week?
Because it makes too much sense, and they want a team in London...Geez.
Tonights game isn't much, but I'll still watch at least the first half.

Am i the only one that wouldn't mind seeing thursday night games moved to friday?

Thursday games are terrible, need to be gone immediately.
Will never happen though because of money.

What it boils down to is letting NFL Network carry some games on Sun...and Fox & CBS WON'T
& if they would let NFLN carry like 2 or 3 games a week (make it regional coverage and do 4) and NFLN would cancel the Thurs Night Game, it's all about NFLN having coverage of at least 1 NFL game a week

Thursday night games blow. Neither teams look as sharp as if they were playing on Sunday.

Why would it be better for the Thursday night game to be played on Sunday and get lost in the shuffle of games?

With the amount of injured players this year being an obvious all-time record, the most feasible solution is to increase rosters.
The real hypocrites are the players. There is nothing going on that their union hasn't agreed to, and if we were to go to 18 games, it would happen because the union consented to the move out of the want for more money. Don't listen to players victimizing themselves. They're where they are because their union chased after the dollar. The union will never forfeit money for more safety, but they'll condemn the commissioner for making the season harder and more dangerous.

Double edge sword because yeah they have a quick turnaround but then they get a week and a half to prepare for their next opponent, so it's almost like a mini bye

move MNF to NFL Network
Would be very surprised if ESPN gave that up.

I've felt all along that NFL Network games is the start of the NFL becoming a complete entity
I don't know if it will be pay per view, subscription or whatever, or maybe just play all games on NFL NetworkS...it makes no sense to have a TNF game.

They do.. It's not like a current coach or player is saying this...

bitter much? it is their career and the nfl is their employer, yes.
The issue is for all the bullshite about player safety they preach, but they still want to add games and cutting their week short with TNF games is intense. Their bodies get beat up on a weekly basis and it takes time for them to recover. If they played sunday, they'd have monday to rest, tuesday to prepare, wednesday flies out for the away team. that's not a good product.

because its a bad product
this is only in place because the NFLN needed something to bring to the table to justify people adding it to their package.
