You obviously didn't understand so I will elaborate further. The players spend half their year on LSU's campus. The student section is an extension of the student body. I guarantee they care more about it than the rest of the stadium hence they sing the alma mater with the student section. This in no way takes away from the rest of the stadiums importance on game day but the student section is the tip of the spear that get's these guys to come to school at LSU and in turn play football for our beloved tigers.
I gotcha man.

The scanning out idea is fricking retarded. It's a really, really stupid idea.

I went to the Kent State game and would have gone to UAB had I not had a family wedding. Furman, I agree. I think the SEC needs to follow suit with the B10 and stop scheduling opponents outside the FBS.
Some people just enjoy watching the team play. Plus, these are great games to take your kids - should you need to leave early for any reason.
The Kent State game was like Chuck-E-Cheese.
I guess I'm the loser since I didn't have anything I'd like to do more than be in Tiger Stadium for a football game no matter the opponent.

I'm protesting the garbage games next year. I'll watch them at Fred's or Bogie's.

I don't blame a student that already paid for a ticket to UAB and doesn't go to the game or doesn't stay for much of it.
Agreed

Love this response to anyone who DARES to criticize the proliferation of sheer garbage games on our schedule.

you still get to go to the game buddy, it's just for priority points
people who stay til the fourth quarter should be rewarded

I didn't criticize shite. And I don't want LSU playing OOC teams like Miami, Clemson, etc. The SEC is already tough enough. Give me a few Kent States @ 7pm every year so I can have a good tailgate and easy night in TS. As a student, I would've showed up but been out of there by halftime.

Nobody is going to want to wait half an hour to leave the stadium. Instead of leaving early to beat the traffic, people will leave early to beat the line to leave.

What would you have LSU do? Schedule 4 top-25 teams (or at a minimum, teams with a decent shot at an upset), while Alabama, Auburn, Texas A&M, and other SEC and non-SEC perennial contenders continue to schedule cupcakes? If that happened, I suspect you'd be the first one in line to bitch about how LSU loses OOC games and our rivals don't. I agree that there should be an across-the-board limit on scheduling rent-a-wins, but until it applies to everyone, why should LSU volunteer to be the patsy? And why should you (or anyone) boycott games that are scheduled in a way that keeps us competetive?

As I said earlier, just make every athletic event a priority event. The ones who stay the whole time during football games are the same who to to a majority of the basketball and baseball games
The ones who leave early are the same ones who only go to priority point games and stay for 10 minutes to get their points

I dont think having to wait in an hour long line to re-scan your idea before you leave is a "reward"

First of all, the SEC needs more conference games. Secondly, schedule teams from major conferences, they don't necessarily have to be ranked.
UAB, Kent State, Furman, Sam Houston, ULM, and New Mexico State over two years is just ridiculous.

This suggestion, while reasonable on its face, doesn't take into account the difficulties of scheduling other major conference foes when those conferences are growing in size, and limiting their OOC opportunities as well. Which Big10, ACC, PAC12 or Big 12 team isn't going to be a contender 3, 4 or 5 years from now (which are the dates being scheduled)? Again, it works if everyone is doing it. But when the Alabamas and Ohio States of he world are scheduling Chattanooga and Ball State, it just isn't in LSU's interest to run the risk that this years 2-10 team will be 2015's (or the year after's) 11-1 team.

I really do like the idea of scanning people when they leave early but only SEASON TICKET Holders! Every time you leave early you lose TAF points, then these tickets will open up to fans who come for the game and not just to tailgate.

Overall atmosphere at games matters, sure. But how much it matters and, more importantly, the extent of that overall atmosphere directly attributable to the student section is debatable.
That being said, the overall stadium attendance is a real problem....certainly in the SS but also elsewhere.

I'm not calling you or anyone else out. Just responding to the person that said literally no one wants to go to those games. Some people do. No, they don't carry the same energy or passion as the big-time games, but it's nice to have a game you can relax and enjoy, maybe bring kids too.

You are the one who is delusional if you don't think the students they have to go to classes with don't play a major role in their decision.

I understand that it would be difficult to do now, but eventually the market will more or less force it to happen. For whatever reason, people don't care as much about these cupcake games as they did years ago.
Maybe it's because I'm a TPOS, but I can't stay entertained for a three and a half hour game against Furman. Tailgating then "watching" the game at a bar/home is more fun

It's only recently that we've adopted the complete garbage home OOC scheduling philosophy.
At first we started going through the in-state schools, and there was at least sort of a novelty to that.
Now, with these complete nowhere nobodies, it's starting to seriously wear thin.
My hope is, like your's, there will eventually be a backlash against this and it will change. I think, at some point, it's got to be seen as not really helpful to anyone to constantly intersperse glorified scrimmage games into a schedule.
