UT hates Briles and he will never be the coach at UT. In 2008, UT finished 3rd in the final BCS poll, behind Florida. The big reason for them finishing behind Florida was that Briles voted UT low in the coaches poll after UT pummeled Baylor. This allowed OU to go to the Big 12 title game (their higher BCS ranking broke the three-way tie between OU, UT and Texas Tech). If Briles had voted UT where they were supposed to be, UT would have gone to Big 12 title game and would have played Florida had they won the Big 12.

I'll disagree a bit with this - it's true that Briles voted Texas 5th, but even if he would have voted Texas 1st, that would likely not been enough to put Texas over OU in the BCS poll (which was the tiebreaker for the Big12). Four other coaches also voted Texas 5th (of course, 4-5 voted Texas 1st as well, amazingly Mack voted us #2...thanks Mack!).

Yes, there are some butthurt fans still (stupid in my opinion) but that alone would not rule Briles out. If anything, the bad blood between Briles and the Texas program (mainly Mack) due to the treatment of Briles's son at Texas is more of a hindrance.

what I posted came from a well-connected alum...I am sure there are multiple reasons, but obviously the one I posted has made its rounds.

Why would Briles want to go to UT? This was a guy making 50k a year not too long ago coaching HS football. And extra million or two may not be that important to him considering what he makes now.

Briles has always thrived on the underdog role, and with Baylor building a new stadium, it could likely be named after him one day. The Baylor administration has demonstrated a commitment to winning, and Briles has all kinds of resources.

Briles seems like the type of guy that would HATE the LHN. The man wants to coach football, not be a politician and constantly kiss the asses of UT boosters who want strong access to the program.
