7 years $142 million? Take him. I'm sure they'll enjoy paying $200,000 per game he actually isn't on the IR per year. Only 3 out of the 7 years he was with the Sawks he was on the field for 100+ games.

Lulz @ Cashman.

Yankees still have Gardner, Ichiro, wells, and Soriano. Not GREAT, but not bad. One will get moved.

There are some rumblings CC will be moved in a deal for Kemp. I love the idea of Kemp in pinstripes but holy hell what do we do for pitching?

Crawford was more established and an All-Star, Ellsbury isn't close to what Crawford was when he hit FA

I can agree with the gist of that... but they aren't that far apart in talents sans the injuries(and he had two years up on Ellsbury). We have to consider all the new money that's coming in and the Yankees sudden payroll flexibility. That contract Crawford signed back then probably would be more worth more now. He's probably overpaid, but that's pretty much the going market value. Everyone is getting bloated contracts.

Ellsbury's deal is worth $153MM over seven years

The deal includes an eighth-year option that could boost the total value to $169MM, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com

Crawford was 29 when he signed with Sox and had played 140+ games in 7 of previous 8 years. He was also a 4x All-Star and coming off a season he finished 7th in the MVP.

I dont mind this as much as the masses. Itll be nice to have a real leadoff hitter that might actually provide a spark. Im not paying him, so i dont give a shite how much money they give him. 7 years seems like a reach though.

I don't see why people get so hung up on money with teams like NYY. They can afford it.

Ellsbury is gonna love that porch in RF the same way Granderson did. He might hit 30 again

Because it limits payroll possibilities.... Yankees can go over budget but at same time then they get I to that tax bracket that could restrict spending later. Plus the absurdity of the contract it reminds me of the ARod deal where Yankees bid against themselves.

It's the length of the contracts that's the issue. Like pujols' contract. And the one the Yankees are desperately trying to get out of with A-rod at the moment.

Dude's averaged 148 games played the last 3 years. Strictly DH'ing with that porch would have been perfect for him and the Yanks. This deal is ridiculous.

Which is why I said Crawford's contract back then would be worth much more now.

It would if this was same scenario but you have a 30 year old whose been in the league 7 years and only played 150+ twice and missed 116 games over the last 2 years. The length and money is an issue. He is a damn fine lead off hitter who gets on base but the Yankees had that in Gardner. This didn't fill a position of need so it basically was a signing just to sign someone.
Tells me Yankees probably trade for a 3B depleting an already depleted farm system or deal an OF which leaves them thin for when Ellsbury gets hurt.
