hope the Pels lose this year: here's why

Let's pretend our best case scenario plays out.
Anthony Davis is out for 2-4 weeks and the team scraps it's way to a .500 record without him. Even then, the Pels play valiantly. They play their way into a playoff birth as a 5th seed. Make it to the second round, and play a team like Houston/Golden State. We all go wild. Everyone has fun. Can everyone agree that that is the MOST that this team could do this year?
But then what?
That team THIS year is maxed out. Can it get better other than these players progressing with youth? Do we have cap room? Oh yeah, we give up our pick in a loaded draft. Now what happens if for some reason, AD can't get back in time to effect the season. All of the sudden, we're closer to the lottery. If we land 5-10. We give it up. Now if we're getting a 1-5. Then we're cooking with gas.
Marcus Smart, Dante Exum on this team would be insane. Rookie PGs (aka Lillard, Irving, Wall, Rose) all can have an immediate effect on an NBA team IMMEDIATELY.
What's that you say? We have a PG?
Okay. In that case, let's draft a bruising PF to go alongside AD who has the length and is growing into his body to play the 5. Julius Randle is a Prototype 4.
What's that you say? We have Ryno at the 4?
Fine. I'm watching Jabari Parker at Duke, and while they have him playing C, this kid is the best all around player I've seen in college since maybe Grant Hill? We could put him at 3 or 4, and he'd be a mismatch at either.
Or Aaron Gordon flashing down the lane on a break.
And then our core is set for the next 5 years. THAT team is a team like OKC that all of the sudden is in the conference finals every year (before they fricked up and traded Harden). THAT team has TWO all NBA guys to grow together.
This team has oodles of potential yes. But it is a mismatch of talents and players. This team has limited upside even with AD healthy. He is the real deal. A top 5 player in the league. Our #1 goal should be to get him the help he need so we can win a title(s). Not to just MAKE the playoffs.
We know what we have in AD. Let's build around him.

Stop
And yes, team full of guys in their early 20s can keep getting better. Shocker.
Ryan Anderson is clearer a better player than he was last year and he's the "oldest" of the core guys.

I wish Jason Smith could go. He's looks more and more useless.

in this league you need more than one all nba caliber player.

i'm so sorry that the idea of having one more losing year to you is so distasteful that you'd turn down a decade of being a potential dynasty.

Agreed 100%
We need to tank and play Rivers

I'm sorry that you dislike the makeup of this roster so much that 17 games in you feel the need to tank to get another player who may, or may not pan out.

Spoken like a true loser. NBA players want to win. Another season of losing basketball isn't what these young guys need. The bobcats and raptors have tried that route for years.

It would have to be more than just a losing season, it would have to be a downright terrible season. No way this team gets a top 5 pick unless you bench half the roster from here on out.
No reason to stunt the growth of a solid core to have a chance at a top 5 draft pick that is unlikely to be better than our top 5 players right now.

I LOVE this roster. We're one piece away. And the chips aren't falling right. The best player on the team is out indefinitely. They're going nowhere without him. This team is ONE season away.
And these players are going to pan-out.
This next draft has 6-7 ALL STAR players in this league. They're not all can't miss, but they're close to it. I'm not sure you guys are understanding. People generally get this stuff right. People KNEW the lebron melo draft was going to be loaded. This draft is that draft.
These players ARE THOSE PLAYERS. Jabari Parker at Duke will be an all star by year 2. Randle will be an all star by year 2. Smart will be the best young PG not named Irving.
You add that to THIS roster (which I love) and you go from a lower to middle of the pack playoff team THIS year, best case scenario, to a championship contender. EVERY year.

the bobcats don't have pieces. They've had shite drafts and no franchise.

And if they suck balls the rest of the season and end up 6-10 and they don't have a pick?
What's your back up plan?

trade Gordon. Get an extra pick. Get cap space. Make a run at a FA.
What's your best case scenario for this season?

I'd bet a good bit of money this won't be the case.

There is no way this team gets a top 2 pick unless you blow it up completely. It's not happening.

Stern wouldn't let that happen

You really think someone is going to give up a 1st round pick for Gordon?

Why couldn't they do this without tanking?

I don't know what the best case scenario is, but I know that the worst case scenario is tanking and ending up 6-10
