They had it behind home plate. They did not have it around the infield.

Probably not. I'm sure they're using the same excuse.
What is it?

Someone who remembers exactly would have to refresh my memory. I just remember it had something to do with underground pipes.

That sounds familiar.

In a few seasons, the pipes will magically not be a problem anymore, and they'll fix it.

I think that is a Rant generated myth.

There are natural gas pipes that run near or in the spot where the batters eye is. They would not be able to go deep enough for something new.

There will be a white drain pip fully exposed for all to see......until right before the first pitch.

And what is your source for that information?

This is good in theory but for some reason I have a feeling it will look so different from the regular grass, the shine from artificial turf will look stupid

Ole Miss has this already. Looks great IMO

Complete BS. They would have no problem installing a batter's eye that looks halfway decent. Lsu tends to cut costs on some ridiculous things. This is one of them.

I'm pretty sure it's true and that is their company line. But I agree it's BS that nothing could be done.

Damn. If only LSU had access to engineers and whatnot.

If you think getting artificial turf is a bad idea in foul territory you've never played on it!

That's because the grass would always get torn up around home plate.
While it's true that the area can easily get torn up, the turf is behind home plate because not enough sunlight will reach that grass throughout the "good" weeks of growing grass.

While you'll probably be able to notice a difference, it won't be a "glaring" one. The catcher's box for the bullpens is already artificial turf, and doesn't have any kind of weird shine.
Btw, the area that's being talked about to be replaced can only be from bullpen to bullpen. It's not that big of a deal, except I might bust my arse running out there with a drag on a rainy day.
