Honestly, I hope we draw a tough team from Pot 1. I'm sure we will lose that game, so we need a team that will easily beat the whole group. Then we battle the other two for the second spot.

OK, you're going to have to walk me through that thought process.

Based on what?
It's all (supposedly) random.
I thought I read somewhere that it was an exception or something. Makes sense that they wouldn't want 3 teams from the same confederation though.
Could very well be wrong.

If we lose to Spain/Germany/Brazil. And a power with experience beats them, we are getting ourselves into a goal differential situation even if we beat the other two teams.
Pot 1 (power) 2-1
Pot 2 2-1
USA 3 2-1
Pot 4 0-3
If there is anything I know about the U.S., it's that I don't want to be in a tiebreaker situation. Goal differential isn't really our thing.
Perhaps, I am overthinking it. Obviously if we beat a Uruguay or Switzerland, we'd be in a great spot. I just am not sure how realistic that is.

Just drew this on the simulator.

We could have a group with 3 UEFA teams. That would be interesting.
I am sure that the UEFA team in Pot 3 would be paired with a CONMEBOL team from Pot 1
Yeah, I'm fairly sure that you're right. It likely means France will be in a group with a COMNEBOL Pot 1 just like that simulator everyone's used does it. . .

I got Switzerland, USA, Cameroon & Croatia.
Which Group A-H would you like to see the US? Obviously A&B would suck.

I think before we all freak out and expect the worst, lets all list teams from each pot that you would not contemplate suicide over if you drew them.
POT 1: Switzerland, Uruguay
POT 3: Ecuador, Ivory Coast, Algeria, Nigeria, Cameroon
POT 4: England, Greece, Bosnia, Croatia, Russia
Bro, are you serious? Cavani and Suarez would nut all over our fricking backline. I want no part of them in the group stage

POT 1 (Seeds)
Brazil
Spain
Germany
Argentina
Colombia
Belgium
Uruguay
Switzerland
POT 2 (Africa & South America)*
Ghana
Ivory Coast
Algeria
Cameroon
Nigeria
Chile
Ecuador
POT 3 (Asia & CONCACAF)
Japan
South Korea
Iran
Australia
USA
Costa Rica
Honduras
Mexico
POT 4 (Europe) *
Netherlands
Bosnia
Croatia
England
France
Greece
Italy
Portugal
Russia
*Procedure Nuances:
-One team from Pot 4 will be moved to Pot 2 prior to the draw.
-Once the groups have been determined for Pot 1, the four South American seeds will be placed into Pot X. Then, the European team moved to Pot 2 will be drawn into a group with one of those teams to avoid having Chile/Ecuador drawn against them.
This is what I'm hoping for ...

The Belgium on is clearly better for us than the Germany one.
Germany > Belgium
Chile > Ivory Coast
Germany > Belgium
Chile > Ivory Coast

I don't know, I'm honestly terrified of Belgium and I think they'll do better than Germany next summer. I honestly haven't seen the Ivory Coast play in a while so I may be overrating them a bit based on past tournaments.
But I decided to do one more to see if I could get a better draw and ended up with Spain, US, France, Portugal

So I am new to soccer and I am confused by the draw. Do they draw names out of a hat for the 3 non-seeded groups? Or is there an organized way of seeding them?
Its probably a retarded question but I don't know how its done.
Thanks

The 3 non seeded groups are organized by region: one has CONCACAF and Asia, another Africa and non seeded South American teams and another all the non seeded UEFA teams.
We get fricked by getting grouped in a pot with Asia which is easily the worst large confederation in the world
