Grant Hill didn't have an agent for his highest paid years. He used attorneys for individual negotiations and saved a lot of money.

This is exactly right. Agents are completely unnecessary, and only serve as leaches on players. But players let them, so......

The fact is most people, and perhaps almost all pro athletes, are simply not qualified to deal with complex financial decisions, and need expert representation. The Ricky Williams contract proves that.

Jamie Moyer didn't have an agent. He did alright.

well NBA contracts are relatively simple. NFL contracts are much more complex

he knew he was gonna get a max NBA deal, there's not much to negotiate there. I think Ray Allen was one of the first guys to do that. NFL deals are a bit different.
