I don't know about all that.

Agreed.

Also, The Assasination of Jessie James by the Coward Robert Ford is one of the best westerns of all time. Very slow though. Not really a shoot em up western, more on the creepy side than anything. One of the more unique westerns out there.

Also, still talking modern day, Open Range and Appaloosa are worth a watch. 3:10 to Yuma is a decent remake and the new True Grit is better than the Wayne True Grit.

The western genre is dying and it makes me sad.

As a Coen Brothers fan, John Wayne fan, and fan of the original True Grit - it is a shame that I have not sat down to watch this film, yet.

Hollywood has destroyed my faith in any sequel, reboot, remake, etc., with the only exceptions being my relative ignorance of the original - even then, it has been hit and miss (I liked the Coens' Ladykillers and the remake of Assault on Precinct 13, although I didn't really understand the need to remake either of them.)

TBH, most westerns back in the day were pretty crappy. We only see the classics now, and have an inflated view of the genre. My dad watches the western channel a lot, and I understand that, it reconnects him with when he was a youngin. But objectively, most of the movies they show are stinkers. Sorry, they just are.

OP, Tombstone is worth a watch. Dana Delany in a corset

Agreed. Silverado was a cartoon.

Damn. Your taste in westerns rivals my own.

And The Assassination of Jesse James, etc., is a beautiful movie.
