The guy had decent success at Stanford
I would hope so considering he was coaching two lottery pick twin 7 footers. He had spent his entire coaching career on the west coast and his only major conference experience was coaching at a high academic school so he had no recruiting contacts and refused help from guys like CT2. He was not a charismatic figure which we needed after John Brady. It was a bad fit from the start.

How fitting that you show yourself in this thread.

Eddie and Derenbecker whereyat?
Interesting factoid...
Derenbecker tranferred to UNO from Dayton after last season.
We play UNO on Tuesday (he's not eligible to play).

probably good he isn't eligible. he would end up on a poster if he even came close to trying to play some d vs us

He's a decent coach who didn't work out well at LSU
Didn't work out? He let the best talent to come out of Louisiana in a decade (Greg Monroe) walk right out of his own backyard. Further, he gave no effort in recruiting Ricardo Gathers, who was notably almost saved by Jones. The guy didn't work out because he couldn't recruit any goddamn talent.

Yeah, that was probably the most disappointing characteristic about him. I really thought he was going to bring us a west coast pipeline to complement a nice talent pool in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas.
He isn't the worst hire in LSU history like someone previously stated, but he may very well be the worst recruiter in LSU history.

Trent started to bring in some good recruits after year one (see Stringer, Hickey, O'Bryant, Turner), but he could never bring in enough elite recruits. I think Johnny has done a great job of bringing in players to compliment Trent's small nucleus of talent.

Trent Johnson I'm pretty sure never had a full scholarship roster here. Usually it seemed like we only had 9-11 scholarship players.
I never understood why he didnt fill out the rest of his classes.

no, Trent is not a decent coach. He's one of the worst in a major conference. He's potentially one of the worst coaches LSU has ever had in a big 3 sport.

No?

I think he just didn't recruit and that took him down across the board. But he was really exciting to watch. Man he was an offensive genius, LSU bb saw the biggest offensive performance in its history under Trent! Kidding of course his offense was watching paint dry but I do hope he can succeed at TCU.

Yes. Trent was one of the two worst hires possibly in the major sports

Temple didn't exactly get along with him. (supposedly)

And he's making double at TCU compared to what JJ is making at LSU. He might not be able to recruit, but he ain't no dummy.
