Through the fog: LSU is not nearly the wasteland people think

They shite the bed against Ole Miss, but didn't get pistol-whipped. Mett spotted them 3 INTs in the first half......3! Believe it or not, if Mett does a half way better job at check downs, LSU wins that game.
UGA at the time was damn good. They were healthy (sans Gurlly), at home, and full of hope. Its UGA, not Kentucky.....
These kids played 9 straight weeks and lost the handle on their fate, yet the Furman performance was an indictment of the true capabilities? Please.
When this young group is motivated, they are quality and can beat anybody. There in lies the difference between the NCAA and NFL. Saban has a challenge in keeping his group focused on the fact that LSU is not hot garbage. If they think this, LSU will smoke them. Granted, no one is better at keeping players focused than Saban.
I fully expect a lot of people to be surprised come Saturday night.

LSU fans, esp some on here (esp the regular posters) have two problems......
1) chicken little syndrome. lose a game or barely win a game or let an inferior opponent hang around for a half and the problem is in decline.
2) uber criticalness. all teams have their ups and downs and we play a more demanding schedule than almost all teams. our ups get these fans assuming we'll be undefeated and our downs get these fans assuming we will not win another game.
add the hatred of les miles with a small but extremely vocal fans and add that nick saban used to be our coach and the vitriol is out of control at times. my only analogy is spoiled teen age girls on their period.
the biggest amazement i have is that there is a segment of fans that blame LSU for saban leaving and blame les miles for saban going to bama. i'm just going to say that les miles is held to the highest standard of any head coach in the country by these fans. beat saban and beat sabans accomplishments at bama or you suck. this group really takes the fun out of this site. it's only fun when LSU wins and wins big.

Whatever the consensus of The Rant is, the exact opposite is true.

Even if we didn't lose to Ole Miss, we would still have to jump over 5 unbeaten teams to get into the NC...A 1 loss team is not getting into the NC this year. If we beat Bama, fingers crossed it ruins their season

IMO, that was the first game I saw Met try to feather a ball downfield to a receiver rather than gun it with authority. It was a different long downfield ball for him... aiming rather than throwing.
Met appeared to be trying to improve on a part of his game that really didn't need improving much.
He'll get back to what was working before and we're in great shape.
Let's just win out and enjoy them as they come.

quote:Losing to an inferior Ole Miss team is a program embarassment any way you look at it. No excuses here. Bottom line, the coaching staff didn't have the team prepared to play. That game shouldn't have been close, even with the three picks.

No, we're not. But we could be so much better. That's the whole point I think.

what about les letting the clock run out? WTF is that? It wasn't all mett's fault. A coach is suppsed to put his players in teh best position to win.

Your right of course, but it's not going to make me feel better when Bama slaps us around.

I like where your head's at.
UGA was tough, but it was a shootout against a good team. Had one or two plays had a different outcome, the ending could have been different. Of course, it ended as it did and that's the way it goes, but it was a good game. And LSU actually did show a bit of guts climbing out of the hole they dug early against Ole Miss. They came pretty close to pulling off an amazing comeback. But, again, they didn't and that loss sucked the wind out of the fan base... and made the Tigers look a bit exposed defensively.
I don't disagree that the defense has looked soft at times-- especially in the middle. Then other times I think they've looked soft and they've gone a quarter or maybe a half and held the other team to nothing. I find it hard to say exactly how good or bad they are (though I'm sure others have some specific opinions they'd like to share... yet again). I guess I just find the defense a bit inconsistent.
Anyway, like you, I do believe if they can tighten up and get in sync, they can have a nice run to finish this season... starting this Saturday. Not saying they will pull it off, but I believe they can. Here's to hope...
