No offense, but that mark up (basically 300%) is not that different from a normal markup on wine and spirits in a store. Now of course, the more expensive the wine or booze, the less the markup (at least in say a restaurant setting)
You are correct in that logic, and the truth is, if they don't charge those kind of prices, people will just buy and resell it.
The 20 should retail for ~120-$140 if I remember correctly.

retail prices where I am are:
15 = $79.99
20 = $129.99
23 = $235.99
15 = $79.99
20 = $129.99
23 = $235.99

Most states aren't literally down the street from Sazerac either.

Supposedly they got 45 bottles of the 20 & 23 year last year...and, girl I'm dating friend works for Republic, and that was what he text her. I stopped at Elios yesterday, and the lady said, Dorignacs has ruined it. They(elios) don't like that Dorignacs gets the biggest alotment, and sell so high either.

I guess so, thats a crazy amount for one store

May have something to do with the fact that Dorignac's shelves are literally lined top to bottom with Republic brands. And they move a lot of that product.

i guess i will continue to dream about a bottle of pappy unless i get an extremely large xmas bonus and decide to buy a bottle at those prices

The 23 is a fantastic sip of bourbon, but you can find it by the glass and savor that sip without agonizing too much over the cost. Do that instead. At least that will let you decide whether or not its really worth it.

Wine markup is between 30-50% in retail on almost all products from the distributor. Now the winery might be 100% or so away counting it goes through a middleman, distributor, then a retailer.

It's pretty shitty they get that much and charge that much for it. I can see some charging a little over...100$ ok I get it...trying to capitalize and make a little extra money since you only have a few bottles. But 750 a bottle and having that many along with the 15 and 20 is just shady.

It is high, but it is supply and demand. I think it's more shocking PVW refuses to raise their wholesale cost.

I'm on the wait list for ORVW 10 & 15, Pappy Lot B and 15. Also, William LaRue Weller and George T Stagg. Can't bring myself to spring for the Pappy 20 or 23.

Look at the oldest michters available. It's wholesale is somewhere around $400 or 450 a bottle. 25 year old scotch is consistently in that range or more.
Posted on 11/5/13 at 6:00 pm to lilwineman
I try not to look at those
Posted on 11/5/13 at 6:10 pm to lilwineman
Which restaurants/bars do you think in BR area get an allocation of PVW?
Posted on 11/5/13 at 6:29 pm to lilwineman
Please let me know which wine stores are only marking up wines 20-30 percent and I'll give them all my business.

Nearly all of them.
Hardly ever is any wine/spirit/beer marked up over 100% in a retail store setting.
Just like lilwineman said, regular retail wine shops, even the specialty ones, use 30%-50% as the norm.
And since most of you know who I am, I'll tell you that a lot of our items are at the legal minimum of 6% And though others may be higher, ZERO ever reach the absurd levels of 200-300% like some claim.
Posted on 11/5/13 at 10:15 pm to BlackenedOut
Please list where I said 20%. I worked retail for 6 years and as my boy CJ can vouch, 30-50% is standard. If you really think keystone markup is standard, you've got to be kidding yourself. Volume is what retailers work off of, not markup. Why do u think 10% is the biggest discount given. Because 10% off of 30% ends up being a 17% markup which is next to mothing.
Posted on 11/5/13 at 10:18 pm to lilwineman
And if you want a # that is 20%, that's liquor. Where as wine is 30-50% max depending on the discount for quantity purchased by the retailer, liquor is usually 20-30% max in retail.
