I love old movies but have seen almost every genre except I've never gotten into film noir. I want to watch some good film noir, maybe stuff that is not that well known. I liked "On Dangerous Ground" with Robert Taylor and Ida Lupino, if that helps.
Any help would be appreciated. I'm down to watching "Christmas Story" and The Third Man.

Thanks everyone for the responses. Some I've seen, but you've given me some movies to look for.

Just search film noir on youtube. Lots and lots of lesser known full length movies. Some are crap, some are hidden gems.

That was Robert Ryan not Robert Taylor. But great movie, one of my very favorites.
Check out some more of Ryan's noir works:
The Set-Up
Act of Violence
The Woman on the Beach
Crossfire

Correct. There is no exact definition of noir.

Somewhat..there are variations of it to be sure, like neo-noir and future noir

Eddie Muller Noir Critic's write up on Film Noir

A good read for anyone looking to get into the genre. I like his definition best.

What is film noir anyway?
Film Noir is the flip side of the all-American success story. It's about people who realize that following the program will never get them what they crave. So they cross the line, commit a crime and reap the consequences. Or, they're tales about seemingly innocent people tortured by paranoia and arse-kicked by Fate. Either way, they depict a world that's merciless and unforgiving.
