Good wins by both UGA and Clemson, now for it to really matter, see if you can take it and ride it to something more.

Anything short of SEC title is meaningless for UGA.
Clemson still has to get through FSU and USC for it to matter.

It's still early - national championships are not won in Sept!

The sign of a drooling moron with a losing argument is the straw man.

If you read between the lines of Richt's postgame press conference, you would be able to tell that he cried because of the Paul Oliver situation.

To Georgia, it was like they won the National Championship. They celebrated in Sanford stadium a lot longer than tiger fans do in Death Valley after good wins. They certainly seemed to want that win and enjoy that win more than I can say we did.

I hate to say it, but UGA fans >>LSU fans. LSU fans are some perverse combination of blase and obsessed with unrealistic expectations. They don't know how to get into a game for its own sake, and enjoy a win for being a win. They need to both grow up and get over themselves.

I agree. I don't really understand our fans. We want to be recognized as having the best college football stadium experience in the country, yet our fans hit the exits en masse before the 3rd quarter is over, regardless of the score. We claim to treasure night games, but our fans seem to find every excuse in the book to show up late and leave early. I admit that it's everyone's prerogative to do as they please, but there's no way I believe that if that game on Saturday had been in BR and we would've won, that our fans would've stayed in the stands to celebrate with the team like UGA did. Over half of the stadium would be empty before the band could finish the alma mater.

Look with winning their comes expectations whether anyone likes it or not. Because of LSU's success over the past decade LSU fans are now expecting to play for SEC & National Championships. And on the flip side beating LSU or Bama is now a huge deal and can spring board someones season if they win that game. The same thing could be said about Bama fans, unless it is a game of the century "LSU vs Bama" or a SEC of National Championship game the fact is Bama and LSU expect to win every game, so the emotions are not what they are compared to other games or the way other teams fans feel about the game vs an SEC or National Championship game.

We expect to win that is a great thing, because I can surely remember when that was not the case.

I really enjoyed hanging with the lsu fans that made it to Athens. I was having brunch with a restauranteur on Sunday and he was also saying how much he appreciated lsu fans because they were out and about in downtown both Friday and Saturday nights. As someone mentioned, the Paul Oliver suicide obviously really affected Richt. He isn't a saint, but he obviously really takes to heart the criticism any of his players take. I think it has truly irked him that Murray has taken so much crap about big games, when the losses usually have a am overall team component. Those circumstances, plus the whole mett situation where he obviously also wanted him to do well, and the fact it was the last big game of a pretty brutal opening salvo all combined to make the win extra special and the emotional dam to burst. Add to all that a perfect CFB afternoon in Athens and you get the perfect storm.

I think that is awesome. I wish LSU did that.

My wife and I were in Athens and no doubt the Dawg fans were SUPER excited after the game! I don't really think they thought they were going to beat the Tigers. Now, they think they can beat anybody! Good luck Dawgs! See you in Atlanta if we can find some "D" ...

LSU played a great game. Last time we played, I could not get out of the Dome fast enough. Take care of business and let's do it again.

Never ever ever did I expect to see LSU fans lining up collectively to declare a moral victory out of two unacceptable losses.

LSU should have won both games ... and I assure you that your two losses adversely affect SCAR and our fans more than it does yours, obviously.

Disappointed. I've always held LSU's fans' standards in high esteem but thread gives me pause.

What's your take on this? Is LSU and Bama now everyone's standard to beat? or have we gotten so used to winning that we take good wins and close losses for granted?

we're an elite program and have been for some time. the sustained excellence is obvious and, as I have said before, we get everyones best shot.

seaux be it...bring it on.

get better, get ready...get even.

No slam on LSU in my OP. I am just interested in perspectives on how beating LSU is now such a big deal. Guess I am seeing this as positive for the entire school/program. I suspect no difference from UGA or Clemson if they had just beaten Bama.

I was almost embarrassed for UGA at the end of the game. Their student fans were running down the stairs and I thought they were going to rush the field for a minute. If they are a true power house they should expect to win.

If and when we beat Bama if our people rushed the field I would puke. That is the biggest insult to your own program when you want to play at the top level.

Unlike our fans, theirs actually gave a damn about the outcome. It's not embarrassing. It's called passion, and it's something that separates college football from the pros. A similar scene wouldn't happen in Tiger Stadium for the sole reason that the majority of our fans would've made for the exits before the final gun. Gotta get that drink on and get back to the tailgate.

I agree we have some idiot fans (but it seems like more because this is an LSU board, so more LSU fans than other fans.

I disagree on the stadium attendance. It is happening everywhere, not just LSU...but big games still pack the place and they stay, so TS would have been full had this game been played there.
