re: Pretty tough to argue against Manning being the GOAT at this point

Brady can't sniff Peyton Manning. There really isn't much of a comparison. Brady was a "good" QB up until Moss and Welker landed in his lap in 2007.
Manning has always been phenomenal no matter the players, the offensive schemes or the teams. Manning IS the common thread of his own success. Brady can't say that.
Oh dear.

He had plenty of nice offensive weapons in his early years, but the Colts' defense was putrid for the most part during his tenure there. Even in their Super Bowl year, when their defense was said to be improved, they were still in the bottom half of the league. These Denver teams are much more talented overall.

Again, one man can't carry an entire team.
He carried Tennessee through 1997. They went 11-2 and won the SEC Championship. When he left everyone was asking how Tennessee could win the SEC again without him. The very next year, with virtually the same team, Tee Martin quarterbacked Tennessee to an undefeated season and a national championship.

that defense carried them to that championship, not Manning.
Drew Brees laughs at Manning's lack of defense

Ray Lewis (never cared for him) made some great points on how the game is played today favoring the offense, and how someone with skill set like Manning is too easy and almost unfair

It's getting ridiculous. Defensive backs have to play off, allowing guys like Manning, Brady, and Brees to carve them up.

This is very true. All defensive backs can do now is stand back and let the wide receivers catch the ball before tackling them to the ground. You rarely had receivers running this wide open 20+ years ago.

Exactly. It sure as hell wasn't Peyton with his incredible 3 tds to 7 ints.

Not to mention the qb doesn't have to worry about being hit
Look at how a washed up qb like Brett Favre succeeded with talent and today's rules for that season

The argument concluded when Peyton won his 4th MVP this is just gravy putting distance between himself and the future(Cam).

People really think Brees has a legit shot at being the GOAT? Really? The guy who was such a bust that his team drafted a quarterback with the top pick just to replace his arse and then ultimately cut him? Yeah that guy is the GOAT.
Dude is a volume guy plain and simple. The AI of quarterbacks except he goes to practice and has a cute kid. Give me a break Saintards.![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconrotflmao.gif)

Not saying he'll be the GOAT but he certainly has a "legit shot". 5-6 more seasons of putting up his 2011/2009 numbers and one or two more rings would put him in the conversation. Not saying it's likely but it's possible.

Cam will be the GOAT of the next generation just like Favre was the GOAT of the generation before Peyton.

Best case scenario he'll be an above average Donovan McNabb/ Carson Palmer level QB.
Worse case scenario, he'll be in the position Mark Sanchez is in a couple of years.
Cam does not have the makings of an elite NFL QB.
