San Francisco and Carmel Dining Suggestions

Wife and I will be on the left coast for several days and we need suggestions for restaurants. Budget not an issue but I do like bang for the buck. Prefer seafood, Asian, or Italian, with local and fresh ingredients.
I saw Abalone on a menu in SF for $60 and I've never eaten this. Could this be worth it?
I also need to find a LSU friendly sports bar to watch the GA game next Saturday in SF. We will be staying in the Wharf area.
TIA

Perbaco in San Francisco .. seek out O Brah for more detailed recs on this place. Haven't been but everyone says it's unbelievable Italian.
also seek out DeanintheYAY's thread on San Fran eating and drinking
Epsilon in Monterey (pretty close / on the way.. to Carmel). I went here once a week when I live on the central coast. Delicious greek food!

Perfect .. go to Northstar, it's the LSU alumni bar. Watched the Washington game there last season and had a great time. There's a girl who cooks jambalaya in the bar during games.

House of Prime Rib if you change your mind and want steak and big red wines

Looks like we'll be in SF on the same weekend. I'll be the guy with brown hair and collared shirt...see you there!

Dean, have you ever been to BeerCraft outside of Santa Rosa? A friend just went to Russian River and thanks to a rec from staff at RR he stopped at this place on the way back. He said it was awesome. Picked up some Abyss, Black Butte XXIV and XXV, and some Lost Abbey, Drake's, Alamanac, etc.
I'm already doing Ales Unlimited, but I'm thinking about stopping at this place on the way back from Russian River.

Had a nice Italian meal, Sicilian style, at Caffe Sport. For Chinese, we went to House of Nanking and ate family style plus a few add ons. Very good.

Swan Oyster Depot. It's a seafood bar. Get there early and eat as much raw oysters and steamed crab as you can.

In San Francisco:
Tadich Grill in downtown SF. Great old seafood restaurant.
House of Prime Rib for the best prime rib you have ever put in your mouth.
Alioto’s at Fisherman's Wharf - Italian seafood. It was fantastic.
Cliff House for drinks. Gorgeous sunset. Food is good, but not on par with the other restaurants mentioned.
In Carmel:
French Poodle - The roast duck was unbelievable. Call early for reservations, because it was crowded. NEED RESERVATIONS.
Pacific's Edge Restaurant - located at the Highlands' Inn, about 4 miles south of Carmel on Highway 1. This is the restaurant in the VISA commercial. The view is incredible (high above the ocean looking out on the surf below). Seating for dinner starts at 6:00 p.m. and you can only get a table by the window if you arrive at that time or at least by 6:30 p.m. The sunset view is spectacular and the food is outstanding. NEED RESERVATIONS (ask for a table by the window).
Casanova - Great Italian food. Very romantic. NEED RESERVATIONS.
Flaherty's Seafood Grill - Outstanding seafood (especially the fried seafood platter of fish, calameri and prawns). We ate here for lunch.
Have fun and eat well. San Francisco and Carmel are my two favorite cities in the world and the food is fantastic. Make sure you post when you return if you go to any of these restaurants. I want details. Enjoy.

We did Alioto's...wasn't very enjoyable for us compared to food away from the water...but it had a nice view.

Make the drive to Sausalito and go to Horizons. Food was amazing, watched the full moon set over Alcatraz out over the water.

Thanks Waco. Just made a reservation at Pacific Edge for 6:00. Looks awesome!
They have Abalone for a starter.

Horizons closed, brotha. Fish is probably my favorite restaurant in Sausalito.

Damn. Guess it has been a while since I went. The wife will be disappointed.

Great (sad) story about Pacific Edge. My wife and I celebrated our 10th anniversary there in 1995, with a table by the window, It was outstanding and when I asked for the check, the waiter said someone else paid for us. Knowing that no one else knew we were there and with a $250 bill, I insisted on the waiter telling us so I could thank them. He came back a few minutes later and said he had made a mistake - it was supposed to be for the table next to us. Last time I insist on knowing. They did comp our dessert (LOL).

We were in SF this past weekend, watched the game at Northstar Cafe in the North Beach area of the city. It's the "LSU bar in SF," but keep in mind we don't have the largest fan base out there. We had an awesome time, and hung out with a few other LSU fans...probably about twenty total. The place got packed as the game went on with a lot of cool people. Great service from the bartenders, cool area to hang out in, small place with a cool neighborhood-bar vibe. A guy/alum named Terrell cooks LA food every weekend there, and it looked awesome. I definitely recommend it if you're in town for a game. They said way more LSU fans would've been there had it been a better game.

OP- I took the exact vacation last year. Enjoy, it shouldn't be difficult.
I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner there. The menu is a modern spin on rustic Italian. It was one of my favorite Italian experiences. That being said, it is in the financial dist. and it isn't very romantic.
Northstar in SF is a great little LSU bar. Lot's of good stories to share with alum. Good time and actually try the food, it's worth it.
For lunch or breakfast, I stayed near the wharf and found many nice little cafe's, one (pergamino cafe). I would avoid the wharf for more formal dining. Feels very touristy.
Carmel-
You will be minutes from Pebble Beach. You can have lunch with an amazing view for an high price but it's first class. Food is ok.
They have a large "shopping area" in the center of town. Get some nice threads(Khakis Men's) then set up shop in the wine bar(Boete). Let the wife blow the retirement accounts while you tie a few on. Also, they have an excellent cheese purveyor in the same mall.
I saw you mention Abolone, I had it at Anton & Michel. It's a great restaurant with a nice "courtyard" Old fashioned place but very good.
That is the extent of my memories with Yelp assistance. You should have a blast.
