AUBURN, Alabama -- Two of the six computer rankings in the BCS formula have placed Auburn in the top 5 nationally, including one No. 1 ranking, three weeks into the season.Yes, the 3-0 Auburn Tigers are No. 1 in the country in at least one computer ratings system. The Colley's Bias Free Matrix Ratings lists the Tigers as the top team in the country and the Massey Ratings lists Auburn at No. 3. The computer poll measures "only on results from the field , with absolutely no influence from opinion, past performance, tradition or any other bias factor," according to the Colley Matrix website. The poll does not release a preseason ranking and scoring margin does not matter. The top five of the Colley Matrix looks like this, respectively: Auburn, Oklahoma, Alabama, Oregon and Washington. The two computer ratings are used in the BCS formula, but both rarely carry any weight in projections early in the season. Many BCS projections rarely use the two computers in the first few weeks of the season because of its wild early-season rankings. The first BCS poll is not released until Oct. 13, the eighth week of the season. The Tigers received votes in the two human polls this week, and would be 33rd in the AP poll and 34th in the USA Today coaches' poll if they were extended.Auburn (3-0, 1-0 SEC) travels to No. 6 LSU (3-0) for a 6:45 p.m. kickoff Saturday on ESPN.

This is why the BCS rankings don't really come out until halfway through the season.

It's gonna be a hard fall from the top.

Depends on when you read the ticker. If you watch a game from auburn 2010, the answer is yes...obviously.

These kinds of rankings are a mess at the beginning of the season, but they start making more sense as the season progresses.

With this new information, do we have any chance of winning this game?

The benefit of the computer rankings when they do come out is that they are NOT skewed by what some bozo thought a teams ranking should be before or early in the season. The human polls are fatally flawed this way, because the preseason (and early season) rankings make it more difficult (not impossible, just more difficult) for better teams to rise in the rankings. If the new college football playoff gurus had a shred of intestinal fortitude, they would make a rule that no human poll which is released before the 7th or 8th week of the season would be considered in ranking the teams for eligibility to be in the playoff.
