I'm think I'm done arguing about it.
This, and 2-0, and we still get complaints.

Well the defense has allowed 12 ppg and 8/24(33%) on 3rd downs.

We're the 11 ranked defense and you find a reason to complain get outta here with that shite

Do you even give rational thought to that?
I'm not trying to start a stupid cyber-war. That's for kids. I'm a Saints fan but not a HOMER.
Cam jordan #2 rated 3-4DE behind ONLY JJ watt. the rest of the line are playing more than 70% of downs due to injuries.
A fatass rookie and a 2nd year player playing close to that many snaps gets a break due to their lack of conditioning compared to a vet.
ATL rushed on us for 88 yards in 14 rushes, take away the "50 yard burst" it becomes 38 yards in 13 rushes
TB rushed on us for 160 yards in 33 rushes.
Collectively, giving up a 5.27ypc. take away that 50 yarder and you get - 4.3ypc. SKEWED due to low run count #s because its only been TWO games.
oh this defense also gave up 429 yards passing, 56.6 completion % and a 7.15ypa. They have also given up 3 TD passes and picked off 2 passes. All of this to go with 3 sacks and 2 fumbles. average QB rating: 76.45
The difference between last year and this year is night and day. The defense is giving up 15.5ppg (actual is giving up 12, but for sake of consistency I'm going with 15.5) meaning they are giving up almost HALF the amount of points as the "WORST DEFENSE IN HISTORY" who gave up 28.4ppg. If that isn't improvement maybe you should go back to school to understand what "improvement" is.
before you come back with some asinine comment about how "its not hard to improve from the worst defense in history" look at the fricking facts.
higher YPC and low points scored means one thing, they get one big run (i.e. jackson's), we stop them, and clamp down and force them to punt.
Last year: 440.1ypg, 28.4ppg good for 32nd in yards and 31st in points
This year: 320.ypg (Wow 120 yards LESS PER GAME against DIVISIONAL opponents too!), 15.5 ppg (almost a full 13 points!) good for 11th in the league in yards and tied for 16th in points allowed. 3rd if you don't count the interception
Want more? 320yards would have been 7th best in the league last year and 15.5ppg would have been 2nd best in the league. 12ppg would have been first.
just do us all a favor, stop cheering for the saints and go back to tiger rant

all those awesome stats aside, this defense has already done something twice in two games we couldnt do at all last year: make a critical stop to win the game.
..and to think we'll only get better.

Doug martin is the name of the bucs running back k kid? And we had their running game quiet until the second half of the game when the only 3 linemen we had left were well gassed. Dig? They started having some success up the middle and on some cutback runs.

Look frickface - the D is improved and is rated decently overall. In large part that is due to the secondary. The D is allowing 5+ yards per rush. You may like that but dem is da cold hard facts. That MUST improve if we're going to challenge for a playoff run. Simply making the playoffs ain't enough. It's a long way to go till that time.
Thanks for bringing substance to the thread, AmosMosesAndTwins. Please don't post any more .gifs of your children.

Has a little something to do with having 4 healthy DLinemen.

MUST it? 4 of the bottom 10 defenses in YPC allowed last season made the playoffs (Falcons were a few plays away from the SB and allowed 4.8ypc). We allowed 5ypc in 2011 when we went 13-3.

what has stuck out to me after 2 games... our secondary seemingly knows how to catch
the 2 guys we probably lambasted the most last year for their butterfingers have pretty solid INTs this year... Harper and Jenkins
Harper made a diving pick off of the tipped ball on 4th down to secure the win against ATL
and Jenkins made a heck of a read, jumped a route and caught the ball that was right in his stomach in stride and raced for what... 30-some odd yards
I know the O has struggled (according to the standards they set) after 2 weeks... but I have no doubts we'll see that side of the ball clicking on all cylinders soon... and when it does... the Saints will be almost unstoppable

I felt the same way. In my mind, the harper INT would have been one of those "a second too late" in previous years and jenkin's would be a PD or bobble and then shaking head

not mad, cold hard facts just trying to clarify for your brain. Our defense could give up 6ypc for all I care, but if they held teams to < 15 points I'd prefer that over >15 points and 4 ypc. Yards don't win games, points do.
We racked up 371 yards against TB, and BARELY won because we only scored 16 points. Their 4.84ypc and 160 yards rushing netted them 7 points. SEVEN

the good thing is... that wouldn't have mattered
the only difference that made was Brees taking a knee at the 20 instead of the 7

Alright.
Saints defense is ranked #9.
Saints offense is ranked #9.
Drew Brees is #9.
Saints favored over Cards by, you guessed it,
9.
What can this really mean?

That in the 9999 Drew Brees will be hailed as a God and being a Saints fan will become the worlds largest religion.....that or you know just a coincidence
