Just to show how backwards country music is, CMT played Will Hoge's music video for Strong the other day. They put the "Edge of Country" label on the video.

I'll agree with that. I think he and his band are pretty talented. Not what I'd listen to on a daily basis, but I don't mind them at all.

"I think I'd rather eat the barrel of a double barrel shotgun
Than listen to that shite they call 'Pop Country' music on 98.1" - Hank III
Zac Brown consistently has one or two songs on his albums that are just absolute dynamite, usually when he lets the band cut loose and strut their stuff. And those songs usually don't fit into country, but have more of a rock feel to them.
Too bad the rest of the album is usually the very same pop country trash he's disparaging.

That's a mighty arguable interpretation of 'pop country'

That really might be the worst song I've ever heard. Wow

No it's not, hes right. All of them were crossover artists in the 60s-70s. They all fricking sucked dicks too. Especially Campbell and Rogers.

Zac is right, that song by Luke is horrendous

As bad as it is, Truck Yeah, Boys Round Here, and Accidental Racist are all worse.
Tough competition this year in the worst song category. Fl Ga line are making a run at the title also.

1994 is the worst song ever

Tim McGraw was making absolute shite music long before these new assholes came along.

I think you are correct. Can't believe I forgot that abomination from my list.

Thanks much for rendering any future opinions you care to share completely irrelevant.

Then let it be said that 'pop country' back then included some pretty awesome songwriters and musicians.

I guess Willie wouldn't fit into some of y'all definition of country either.

Mr. Sunshine on my Goddamn Shoulders, John Denver.

Same could be said today about Keith Urban or Taylor Swift. They are good musicians, but their music is too pop for me.
I'm not hating on the guys I listed above, but our parents were probably having the same discussion (although not on a internet forum) about how those guys were "ruining country" and turning it into "pop." Pop in mainstream country is nothing new, its just more prevalent now.

Zac Brown has no room to talk about awful country music
I like ZBB. Sure, they are pop-esque but they sure as hell don't stoop to Jason Aldean levels of frivolous songwriting. You can tell they put some effort into their musicianship, which I can respect. Not to mention, some of their songs are actually really good.

California Country.
