They have to call the defensive signals and I doubt Beckwith is ready for that yet.

I agree with this and would add that he has only been here since August and is probably adjusting more to the physicality and speed of the game and isn't where he needs to be mentally just yet, which is not unlike 98% of college freshmen playing at big time programs.

But if there is a player who could pull off such major responsibilities at a young age Beckwith seems to be a prime candidate. He played QB in high school to go along with playing multiple defensive positions. I'm sure he has the ability to read an offense and is accustomed to getting players lined up correctly. He was the unquestioned leader for his team and didn't shy away from the spotlight.

I know that playing 2a high school football is nowhere near the level of SEC play but I'm just saying that if anyone could pull it off at such a young age he could do it. Im also sure that if he was capable of doing it at this very moment Chavis would no doubt have the kid starting at MLB instead of Welter.

Well Chavis didnt work Beckwith at mike until this game. Maybe he worked in the practice since fall camp started but we dont know. People acting like he is just gonna start this week at mike linebacker is just wishful thinking.

maybe not now but maybe by the end of the year. We need him for gurley and bama though. He is the only one big enough to stop the two headed monster at georgia. its good that chief is giving him reps at de and mlb. guy needs to be on the field

Why are the majority of our linebackers undersized it seems like they're all the size of safeties. Is beckwith the only one who's prototypical size?

no kidding. a nightmate. containment of JFF last year was in large part due to an outstanding off-the-edge play of Mingo and Eric Reid's discipline

Chavis typically likes smaller linebackers in his scheme. Beckwith is certainly not his typical size linebacker. Beckwith almost looks even bigger than 246 to me

This. Beckwith had his hand in the ground several times. He's a big fella.

Beckwith is huge and fast, but he was very hesitant on plays last night. He is very young a d I wouldn't think he's got the understanding to sett the defense. He should see lots of PT in third and short/long, with a specific assignment.

Does Beckwith have the lateral speed though at linebacker? Not trying to be that guy, but honestly wondering.

Beckwith is the future at Mike but he's not ready to call defenses. My guess is LL starts with Welter and Beckwith getting significant snaps.
