Did the QB have any idea how much time was on the clock? He seemed very nonchalant until it got down to 5 secs, then he stated freaking out
That's what I saw. He spent too much time with the referee behind him while the rest of the team was lining up. He should have had his hands under center ready to take a snap instead of motioning that he was down to that referee.

quote:Wrong. The officials blew the whistle when the QB's knee hit the ground, so they were correct up to this point of course.
The officials completely blew that. 100% on them
I'm going by this video to explain this timeline:
:16 Whistle blows play dead as QB's knee hits ground.
:12 ASU player falls on the ball, thinking it is a live fumble
:09 Official taps ASU player on the shoulder, instructing him to get off the ball
:06 ASU player is no longer touching the ball
:04 Ball is spotted
:03 Wisconsin QB makes first communication for offense to be set
:01 Wisconsin is set for the play
:00 end of game
The officials did nothing wrong here, and Wisconsin completely blew it.

Why didn't he spike it to stop the clock?
What a maroon.
What a maroon.

so after a 4 second delay, a defensive player falls on the ball after the official blew the play dead
quote:
:06 ASU player is no longer touching the ball
then 6 seconds later, he's off the ball...sounds like defensive delay of game to me

None of this matters anyway. Wisconsin wasn't set until :01. That's on them.

Evidently New NCAA rule where the ball cannot be spiked with less that 3 seconds remaining. He didn't need to spike the ball until the ref reset the ball, which didn't happen for a the majority of the 16 or so seconds left.

3 seconds too many
Wisconsin is the B1G school that I root for, but they blew this one. It's 100% their fault. The officials didn't do anything wrong, period.

Exactly. The referee failed to get the ball spotted knowing there was a running clock and what these guys were obliviously trying to do with 18 seconds and no timeouts. That is not on Wisconsin.

The umpire had his hand up telling Wisconsin they couldn't snap it yet even after the ASU player was up, they were not allowed to snap the ball... I swear some of you argue a wrong opposing point on everything just to get people riled up

i don't disagree that it's partially on Wiscy, but to make the refs faultless in this is beyond moronic. so either you are trolling or blind.

The refs fricked that one up. They didnt have the sac to call a delay penalty on the home team because the crowd woulda gone batshit crazy.
Posted on 9/15/13 at 8:55 am to quail man
wow, wisky got screwed. I do question that play call thou, with no timeouts. Also, why the frick did he put the ball on the ground? any defense would have done the same thing and jumped on the ball there.

UW #3 and #48 were never even set at all, and #61 wasn't set until :00. That means the ball was spotted at least 4 seconds before Wisconsin's offense was set.

WOW. I fell asleep in the chair for this one. Unbelievable.

Watched it a few times. I think even if you blame this one on the refs, you have to give some blame to Wisconsin.
They ran a play to center the ball with 18 seconds left and no timeouts. The QB takes a very quick knee jumps up and puts the ball on the ground. They have no timeouts. That offense should've been on the ball ready to snap the ball with 8 seconds left. Honestly, they shouldn't have run that play with no timeouts. Retarded.
With that said, a little blame goes on the refs for not moving a little faster. But that's what you get for putting the game in the hands of the ref at the end. Wisky blew it

Just showed the clip on ESPN. It's pretty obvious the refs blew this one.
