re: Proof that Concealed Carry permit holders live in a dream world, Part One

Just like real life..
wearing a holster you didn't choose, a helmet that you can't see out of, gloves, and facing a shooter, that specifically knows the target who has the only gun in the room and where he's carrying it. Seems like it'd be accurate to me.

So not having a gun is better?

'gun free zones' are a liberal utopian dream that has been proved false time and time again, and yet, we still have them.
I keep my firearms, and avoid gun free zones, gun free cities, and any establishment that prohibits concealed carry, thank you very much.

The "shooter" obviously knew who had the gun and where they were sitting. I think it was not until the last guy, that the "shooter" shot someone else besides the professor then the armed student. A person who enters a room like that, would have started shooting the students who were trying to run out the class before ever seeing a random student in the room with a gun.

It's just incredible how stupid these people are. Why the gloves, helmet and long shirt? Notwithstanding the shooter knowing who has the only gun.

Aside from the points already mentioned I'd like to add to the "set up to fail" list by pointing out the following:
1) All the participants were chosen for training by abc news. (Not that they have an interest in the outcome or anything)
2) They called a kid dicking around in his backyard with an airsoft gun, not even playing actual airsoft matches, a person with >100hrs handgun experience.
3) None of them were shown to have ever attempted to shoot a target more than about 4 feet away, or shooting at a moving target.
4) Did it ever address how old the participants were? None of them looked old enough to concealed carry in real life anyway.

Well to even consider a lot of LEO's competent with their weapons is crazy. Most of the LEO's that I know shoot when they have to qualify for the department which is usually 2x a year and that's all they ever use their duty gun. 150 times a year LEO's WATCH a suspect walk up and kill them because they don't know what they frick they are doing and can't hit shite. I've trained enough of them to see this. A department like the LAPD on the other hand makes their officers shoot once a month to stay current with their perishable skills. Their shooting is MUCH better than say the Memphis Police Department. Moral of the story is that if you train even with 30-40 rounds 1x per month you will be way more effective than someone who shoots 500 rounds in a day 2x a year. Its also all about your mindset, if you have never thought about why you carry a gun you have no reason to be carrying one. Practice kids.

Everything in that story and that study is accurate. That doesn't rule out that if you have a few seconds to collect your thoughts you might be able to do some good.
However, it is true that the idea that you are Cool Hand Luke just because you have a CC permit is a delusion and a problem.
The suggestion of the story is to train yourself. That is a good suggestion.

Rut roh, I can't believe you haven't been lambasted for that post. How can you support non-Fox media? The Walter Mitty-esque CC faction on here is bound to rise up, and your commie views will not be forgiven.

I just open carry there.
If allowed by law.

Because the story is actually a wake up call to the newbie idiots who have armed themselves without taking the time to go out and learn the weapon. Nothing wrong with taking the time to put in the effort to get it right.

However, it's pretty clear that the point is that common people could never train enough to be competent and are better off running, hiding or playing dead than trying to defend themselves. They even explicitly say this if you actually watched the video.
They even reinforce that you yourself are likely to become a danger/threat to other innocents, so you shouldn't even bother.
When comparing outcomes, it's interesting that the assailant is highly trained and knows exactly who, what and where; yet how often is that the case in real life where the most common threat IMO is from a person of low to moderate skill and training? Yet those outcomes were supposed to be experiments studying real life scenarios. What bullshite.
And What in the frick was up with the helmets and long t-shirts? That was probably the stupidest part.
To anyone with a functioning brain, this was a results-oriented sham of a study designed to make those who would defend themselves with a gun look pathetic, incompetent and even dangerous.

it would be interesting to see the statistics on people who take the CC classes, and their previous level of training and experience with firearms. Military experience, hunting experience, etc. Of course, many would think even giving that info an infringement on their 2A rights.

Not really. I don't know too many people that will have a weapon they aren't familiar with, in a holster they didn't buy, wearing thick gloves and a helmet that's hard to see out of, facing off against a gunman, that is highly trained, is aware of his target, and is intent on getting that one specific person to make a point. But, that's just me. Speaking of training...
Ooops. Wrong truck, wrong color, wrong sex and too many occupants.
Officer already has weapon pulled, great training pays off

quote:This mirrors my experience. I had to qualify/train many reservists who were LEOs in their civilian jobs. 75+% couldn't pass a basic Navy F Pistol course the first time and a third couldn't pass no matter how many times they tried. Arrogant and close-minded with a false sense of capability. Only 25% were truly competent.
Well to even consider a lot of LEO's competent with their weapons is crazy. Hopefully that's changing since we have more combat vets entering law enforcement these days. Quite a few of these kids coming out of the service these days are pretty hot shite.

No, you must not have watched the whole video. Diane told us that a working cell phone can be a very effective weapon.
Call 911 so they know where to send the coroner and a bunch of body bags

Yeah, I turned it off before that

Wow, that's eye-opening. If I am carrying someone else's gun in someone else's holster, wearing gloves, a helmet and clothes that were given to me minutes before and a trained shooter enters the room with his gun drawn, lets everyone leave while he focuses on me and I have less than 3 seconds to draw my weapon and put him down, I'm fricked.
