Istanbul would have been a great venue, anyone comparing it to the Middle East that is reported in the news is a half retarded redneck
Agreed. Anything is better than Atlanta. US crappy security couldn't even prevent a bomb in Olympic park. I'm surprised the US is even eligible for another one after that.

Those people were protesting against the Islamic aligned government.

I know, but still. It doesn't look good

Agreed, it happened around the same time as the Rio unrest, and after Rio and Sochi, I can see the IOC growing weary about that.
Tokyo is a fine, safe choice.

I think I may go to this.

Pyeongchang is way closer to North Korea than Istanbul is to any of those countries.

The US borders Mexico, far and away more dangerous than Iraq Iran, you can thank Narco Terrorism for that.
Proximity means shite.

A US city has to win in 2024, right?
28 years since Atlanta in '96 so I think we're due.

If it is a US city, what city do y'all think it will be? I know Chicago was in the running for 2016.

Dallas, D.C., maybe L.A. or Boston

After the renegotiated revenue sharing that the USOC agreed to in e past year, I think the IOC has to give us either 2028 or 2024 as well as a Winter games.
I'd like to see Denver host the Winter games and NYC to get the Summer.

I think Denver would be a lock to host the 2026 Winter Olympics but I think we're going all out for the 2024 Summer Olympics.
We will have some tough competition, though. Paris, Berlin, Rome and Toronto are supposedly going to bid.

The US essentially handed over billions of dollars to the IOC in perpetuity. There has to be a catch, right?

If Atlanta can get the freaking Centennial Games against Athens, Toronto, and Melbourne, I think we'd be fine for either 2024 or 2028.

, big fan of Tokyo myself. Great for them

Washington DC is bidding for 2024 and had a compelling argument for being the most powerful national capital and never hosting. Don't know if they could do it on all the tangible fronts.
Regarding Istanbul, who the hell had been there because I get the impression many comparing it to Iraq, Syria, etc are not very bright.
