re: Where Do You Think TCU's D Ranks among Other D's We'll Face?

I don't think fields makes any difference. Mett will have time to pass all year. Our tackles are good.
The tcu secondary is elite. At least 3 nfl players start for tcu in the secondary. We won't play a better secondary.
ETA: unless we are at practice of course.

Not sure about the whole D, but I think that's the best secondary we'll see this year.
Ref's called it loosely (both ways, which was fine). TCU's D backs are very experienced, and clued in on that/played super tight.

You cannot be serious. In a game that was more or less decided on 3rd down conversions, Fields would have made a difference if for no other reason that he creates a couple of stops either through sacks or QB hurries. Nobodies OTs are that good.
Or to put it another way, you can't say how elite Jason Verrett is or the other secondary players and then pretend that Fields isn't on the same level just because he did not play. LSU had some solid receivers but that didn't keep those TCU secondary players from making some good plays.

I'm dead serious. We stopped Clowney with an injury riddled OL. We were finally healthy. Surely our tackles impressed you.
Call a spade a spade. Your secondary was excellent. Our tackles were __________?

My guess is you also had to double team Clowney a good bit to make that happen as you also would of with Fields. The fact is if Fields plays, the whole complexion of the game changes and the TCU defense would look stronger in consequence.

Maybe la'el would have only blocked him 10 yards downfield instead of 15
With our tackles we may not need to double anyone this season, other than 3-4 nose guards.

Top Three
Alabama
UF
TCU
There are some weak defenses in the SEC this year.

I'll stick with top 15 with TCU ending up top 10 easy, they got after it Saturday...would like to see TCU and OK State October 19th

False. they played in the mac. not one yeam remotely close in talent. Over the ladt 4 cycles, only OU and UT out of the Big 12 have had higher rated classes every year. you guys act as if they have no talent. they are one of the most talented teams in the big 12.

Likely behind Bama and UF. Anyone I'm overlooking?
they were really good but they weren't good enough to beat us using their strategy of stopping the run and manning our wr's. yes, i think bama and florida will be better but thank god our offense will be also. we will have to pull out all stops to beat bama or uf because they are good enough to stuff the run and man our wr's effectively. by "all stops" i mean the playbook; passes to rb's, te's, using jennings for read option, etc. i don't see us scoring 37 points against either.

1. TCU has never played in the MAC. They have played in the WAC, MWC and Conference USA. All these conferences are superior to the MAC. TCU resolved any confusion on this years ago when they defeated the MAC's champion Northern Illinois 37-7 in a game that was never that close. The MWC which TCU was in before the move to the Big12 was arguably anywhere from the 4th to the 6th best conference in college football depending on the year when TCU was in it.
2. I think TCU has had only one class in recent years finish in the top 25 in recruiting. Not sure how you gathered your stats but most of the services have them in the 30s and 40s which wouldn't support what you are saying.
3. TCU does do more with less because even with those poor recruiting class rankings, they churn out players to the NFL on par with schools like OU, UT, etc. There is no question that GP develops talent with the best of them. The only question is what will happen now that they are in the Big12 and recruiting more highly ranked players coming out of high school.

You might get surprised...could turn into a shootout...to me that's what makes College football so much fun...ya' just never know what 20 yr. old kids will turn out and do...

LSU defense > TCU defense.

I don't think anyone is saying this.
Regarding how much of an impact Fields would have had had he played I don't think it would be as much as the TCU fans think. Fields is a great player (probably not as good as Clowney) but our OTs are both outstanding. Yes, they are that good.
As for those who don't think TCU is legit on D, compare how TCU did vs Utah in '08 with how Bama did vs Utah in the same year.

just imagine the defense patterson could put together if he was coaching university of texas athletes, pretty scary.

While technically true due to the 2013 recruiting class, you conveniently leave out that TT has a better recruiting class 4/5 and WVU, and OSU have and a better class 3/5
Not so fast.
during the recruiting MWC time, 2004-2010 TCU averaged rank was 67

He keeps using the same argument but it really does not hold water.
GP has simply been doing more with less.

TCU is good on defense and fast on offense. It wouldn't surprise me if they ran the table in the regular season.
I just can't agree with this - I think TCU is the Vanderbilt of the Big 12 !
