Interesting to see where he'd fall in with the likes of McCarron, Murray, and Manziel (is he draft eligible?)
Out of those 3, ZM is probably the most prototypical NFL QB (although the prototype may be changing now with the likes of Kapernik, R. Wilson, RGIII, Cam Newton). McCarron wins and does everything pretty well, but he doesn't have the size and arm strength scouts like. Murray coming back for his senior year in a VERY weak QB class tells you all you need to know about the NFL's thoughts on him. Manziel is a bit of a wildcard as far as where he stands in the NFL's eyes (see aforementioned young NFL QB's)
To me, ZM is Ryan Mallet. Great size, great arm, inconsistent accuracy and touch. Will have some really good throws, followed by really poor throws to open WR's. He will stick a crossing route in a tight window, then overthrow/underthrow 2-3 deep balls. Plus he's not very mobile. He showed some improvement against TCU though. Can he keep it up?

When Les Miles hired Cameron as the Tigers' offensive coordinator, he significantly improved Mettenberger's chances of becoming a top pick in the 2014 draft.
Cam will significantly improve the skills and draft ability of every offensive player that comes to LSU. If LSU's offensive line and receivers looked like they had been coached up by someone in the NFL, its because they were.

Ain't that the truth. It's been a long time coming.

Russell Wilson is exactly what I would want in an NFL QB [only knock is his height]. He gives you the running option every now and then. But, he's primarily a pocket passer.

The problem with QBs like RG3 (who I think is great) is longevity. Lots of $ to spend on an NFL tackling dummy.

Which is why I have problems with the design runs & improvised plays that the Redskins use RG3 for.

I think mett is a 2nd-3rd rd pick. He could move into the 1st rd.

The initial injury to RG3's knee didn't occur on a designed run, it was when the pocket broke down. A thing that could happen to any QB. The final injury that put him out for the season came when he fell untouched going for a fumble, probably due in part to the terrible conditions on the field.
Meanwhile Wilson, an even smaller dude, made it through the entire season with a fair amount of running without incident. And Kaepernick and Cam have been fine as well.
QBs don't need to run like RBs to be a threat. The don't need to put their head down and fight for yardage, which is where a lot of the wear comes from. The smart ones can get out of bounds or slide to avoid most contact. Meanwhile, dudes like Kevin Kolb get his ribs detached from his sternum trying to stay in the pocket.

Before last week he was a last day pick at best. Now people see a higher ceiling which could mean 2-3 round pick. He has to make it happen though.

He will be a first rounder and franchise QB. He has the skills and teaching now to go along with that arm, brain, and measurables.
First round lock. Matter of fact our "declining" program will produce at least 3 first rounders this year.
Watch.

That is bold prediction considering some of the NFL insider boards project him as a late rounder or even UFA.
That will change dramatically during the course of the season.

"Although Cameron's system requires the passer to make more high-risk throws, the potential for explosive plays makes the scheme a quarterback's dream."
ZM consistently made accurate big play throws last week that we haven't seen from the Tigers in a long time.

Yeah. I made a thread on this the exact thing the other day. Some laughed LINK
No. You made a thread that said Mett will be the highest rated QB OVERALL. Which he wont be.
Could he be the highest rated QB from the SEC? Yea he could. Just has Murray to compete with. And maybe Manzie( I dont think this but the NFL is different).
Mett wont be ahead of Bridgewater. And I think I would still take Boyd over him too.
And, it was just 1 game. It was a damn good game too. But Boyd and Bridgewater have been doing it for a few years.

Mett needs to show a little bit more accuracy before I'm sold

Do any of those guys strike you as a QB that a franchise can build around? They may be serviceable NFL QB's with winning pedigrees at the college level....but ZM is 6'5 with a cannon. QB's like him don't come around very often. Nobody in the outstanding 2012 NFL rookie QB class has his arm strength. Nobody in last years draft class did either. He's also improved his awareness and footwork in the pocket.
