re: The rising draft stock of Zach Mettenberger

Everyone needs to pump the brakes a bit on ZM. He did show improvement; alot of improvement, but he is still staring down receivers, not going through his progressions, and his vision is suspect. LSU's receivers made good plays and he mad a lot of NFL throws, but he continually underthrew the deep ball and threw into double and triple coverage. ODB's long drop and no one mentions the play where two receivers were there and no one knew who he was throwing to are examples. More effective use of checkdowns would definitely have brought the TE and backs into play more (which everyone is calling for). He has improved but has a very long way to go. Pocket presence and vision are where he needs the most work (24/7 football in the pros could help this). He is still having issues with the biltz pickup, audibles, and he could easily slide for a 1st down instead of running to the sideline. He made smart decisions throwing the ball away, but overall a QB coach would critque his performance harsher than sports analysts. It is why his completion percentage was somewhat low, he needs more work.

if you can make the play with your primary receiver, you don't need to go through your progressions. Most of your "progressions" are done at the line of scrimmage anyway. You should be able to predict which routes have the best probability of being open based on the defense. The QB does not drop back, progress through all the routes to see who's open then decide where to throw the ball. Typically what looks like "staring down" is when the QB's primary target is one on one and he knows he's going to make that throw regardless.

First pass of the game, 3rd play from scrimmage. Stares down a receiver on the right side of the field, pump fakes, throws dural open on the opposite side.

Im not 100% sold on Mett just yet.He looked quite a bit more confident than he did last year for the most part,but he had time to stand in the pocket and wasnt pressured all that much.The part I do like from the TCU game was his ball placement.(not the ones he threw to the ground).

I like Mett better than all SEC QB's named here . Only Manziels legs are better then what Mett has to offer

Next year's draft will be loaded w QBs:

Bridgewater, Manziel, McCarron, Mariota, Hundley, Boyd, Murray, Mett... Mett goes in 3rd round at best
