So why waste a waiver?
If that was the only guy they liked in this round of cuts than it wasn't a waste. But yeah, they must have liked him enough to claim him obviously.

Can you imagine him returning around playoff time?
Butler
Haralson
Galette
Wilson
This could be an awesome rotation at OLB at the most cruical time.

I'm surprised by that. I'm sure he'll end up on the practice squad, but I thought he'd be in the last round of cuts.

According to this Martin only played 1 snap. I wonder if this was an injury issue or if he quickly fell out of favor for whatever reason.

He was a one trick pony as in rushing the QB. He was all folks talked about early in camp. Then I imagine they keep throwing more sets at him and he couldn't adjust and keep up.
A P.S. guy no doubt to give him a chance to learn more of the def scheme.

But if we wanted him on the PS we could have cut someone else we knew wouldn't make it. Why not wait until the next round of cuts so he's out there for less time?
I have to think they may be done with him and have another LB in mind for the PS.

Thats why the Saints are so much smarter than most. Cut him now and he's obviously not very good. Makes him that much safer than being a last minute 'almost made the team must be pretty good' cut.
Thats the best I can do.

Good developmental player, I guess.

You played solid defense here.

Something clicked when I read this. Could be that we plan on keeping Sweeting on the 53 and we have no other good corners for the PS.
I'm also starting to think either Johnson or Reddick is PS bound with the release of Martin coming so soon.
So how does the rest break down?
QB will be Griffin.
Either HB Robinson or FB Johnson for the backs.
Tanner possibly as the receiver. If he's not eligible we pick someone up or bring a TE.
Several possibilities on the Oline such as Lelito and Jones.
Aaitui or a pickup as the Dlineman.
So that's 7 of the 8. Maybe we bring 2 Olinemen or bring a safety(Nelson).
It'll be interesting who breaks the 53 and who gets stashed.

The Saints apparently were intrigued by the 5-foot-11, 186-pound Rolle, who went undrafted out of Catawba College, a Division II school in Salisbury, N.C., before being signed by the Bills and subsequently waived Monday.
In two preseason games with the Bills, Rolle was in on four tackles, had an interception and defended two passes.
"He was just a guy that we had good grades on," Payton said of Rolle. "I think we are pretty deep at the position and yet here is a guy that has good size, good ball skills and transitions well. So you don't find out until the waivers are turned in to the league office, then you are awarded the player. So that was something that happened just a little bit ago.
"But he is an interesting prospect, again a first-year guy, a rookie. So we will take a peek."

and how could they turn down a chance for a Catawba guy?! Saints are the small school kings!
Catawba
Fordham
Arkansas Pine Bluff
Hofstra
Bloomsburg
Stillman
Tarleton State (2!)
Regina
Nebraska Omaha
North Dakota State
Grand Valley State
ULM
West Texas AM
Midwestern State
Samford

As I recall, Seattle was looking at Rufus prior to the draft too, so if we want him, we may have to keep him on the 53. Loomis might not want to take a chance on losing him if he thinks he's another Gallette, so he might be safe.
Reddick- wasn't he one of the 2 prized undrafted free agents (Chase Thomas being the other)? He's still hanging in there, despite facing tougher competition. Isn't he the only young guy left at ILB?
Can either Tanner or Parker make the practice squad?

Humbar is 26
Lofton is 27
Hawhtorne is 28
Still have Ray Shipman - 23
The ILB is a relatively young position.
