Anxious to find out who the nickel, dime & 2nd team corners are.
My guess for 2nd team CB
-- Thomas & Raymond
3rd team
-- Holmes & White
Dime & Nickel
-- Eugene, White then Brazil.
How does it shake out?

Either way we stacked.

I think I read somewhere that White was already #3 behind the two Jalens.

Jefferson will play a lot in the "Micah Eugene" role as a hybrid corner/safety.

quote:I haven't heard anything about Jefferson being a hybrid safety. If anything, White will fill the roll that Micah played last year during nickle situations.

1st team - Collins and Mills
2nd team - White and Raymond
3rd team - Thomas and Brazil
Nickel - White
Dime - Eugene
Jefferson will play a lot in random spots, but Eugene is our best blitzing DB and is great against guys like Manziel. And he also wasnt the nickel last year. When we went nickel, Collins and Simon were the outside CBs and Mills moved into the slot. Eugene was the dime back, and will be the dime again this year. Hes great in that role. White will be the nickel and that will get him on the field early and get him acclimated to SEC football.

Thanks KG5989.
Surprising that Raymond & White jumped Thomas, but they have more speed.
Hope Holmes is not discouraged. He can benefit from learning from coach Raymond. Has the talent to make the NFL if he stays and gets proper coaching.

Miles has said repeatedly that Ricky Jefferson is doing extremely well and will play a lot. FWIW

Thought Jefferson was strictly a safety? He is safety size at 199lbs.

No problem...
Im pretty sure Raymond and Thomas are on the same leve, just had to pick 1 to put on the 2nd team so went with Raymond. They are most likely neck and neck. White is the 3rd CB though.
Yea I completely agree. Jefferson has looked really good and everyone is speaking very highly of him. I just dont think hes going to the nickel or dime. We usually use another CB, not safety, in the sub packages. We use Eugene, but hes not a true safety. Hes a hybrid DB that can play any position. And hes excellent in the dime role. Jefferson is a true safety. Im sure he will play in spot duty and in certain scenarios vs certain opponents. But I dont see him being the nickel or dime full time, considering we usually use CBs or a guy like Eugene.
The dime spot is pretty much locked up with Eugene, just like it was with Ron Brooks. And we like using a young CB who can be great at the nickel to get him valuable game time experience. So i think White becomes the nickel.

Jefferson's backpedal was smooth as silk in the youtube video of the DB drills.

Eugene is a solid blitzer and a great contain guy against running QBs, but his coverage skills are average at best. I hope Eugene is replaced as the dime back against teams like UGA that run a more pro style offense.

I agree that his coverage skills were average last year. But he was just a redshirt freshman seeing his 1st action. He should be improved in that area.
And against teams that run a more typical pro style offense, we wont be running that much dime. You use dime against teams like TAMU, Oregon, West Virginia, etc. who run a 4 WR spread offense 70% of the time.

Sure would have been nice to see where Rashard Robinson would have fit in, thanks clearinghouse

Haha i was thinking about that the entire time in this thread... guessing hes gonna get a redshirt?? or will he still have 4 years of eligibility left if he doesnt get here for this semester?

yeah you can only use dime if the other team is 4 wide 70% of the game or more. Otherwise its a penalty.

While it doesn't really matter or have much to do w/ this, Tre'Davious White is a freaking beast in NCAA 14. I can't get over how many plays he makes for me. Okay, I'm done, continue on.
