I was also taught to visualize the exit wound on a deer to make sure I made a good shot. If you can't shoot the arrow through both lungs and the heart then don't shoot. I hunt with people who have been bow hunting way longer than me that still take bad shots because they don't understand that concept.

Good advice there.
Alot of folks get so caught up shooting broadside deer targets all summer that they forget to make corrections on quartering deer
Like the previous poster said, visualize where to aim by the best angle to get the arrow through the heart or both lungs
And NEVER take a head on shot!

If you plan on safely and effectively hunting with a bow THIS year, you need to purchase soon and practice everyday. it getting to be that time and youre already late.

I'm assuming that you are a younger, able body hunter. If so, get an affordable compound. Look for a second hand one to get into the sport. Do not, repeat.....do not pussy out and get a crossbow. The joy of bow hunting is the satisfaction that you can take a deer at an ethical range by doing something other than pointing and pulling a trigger.
You may have already waited too late for this season. It takes hundreds and hundreds of shots before you can develop the habit of doing the same things every time. That's the key to successful shot placement.

Bowhunting is addicting. Get a compound bow and I'd recommend a hoyt! Good luck.

Any bow you buy today will kill a deer.
Practice, practice, practice
Practice shooting in weird positions, Practice standing up without making a sound. Practice drawing then holding your bow at full draw for minutes at a time. Understand that just because you can pull 70 lbs at home doesn't mean you can pull that weight when the buck is at 20 yards.
