and I want to try and correct this misconception that Stanford is a legit top 5 team. Since when? Since they got beat by a horrible Notre Dame team? Even when they had luck they were top 10 but not a legit national title contender. Does anyone seriously think Stanford has nearly the amount of talent as a USCw, LSU, Alabama, Oregon, etc.? Because they dont.... not even close.

Stanford is 1 of the few teams outside of the SEC that I respect. They run a power running offense with great PA vertical passing game. And they have 1 of the best coaches in college football. Sorry, but Stanford is 1 of the few teams I dont have a problem being ranked a little high. And they were a legit national contender with Luck. And in recent years they usually beat USCw and Oregon.

So who is going to beat them this year?
Yeah, we know teams like Ohio State, Louisville, and Standford aren't truly a top 5 team, but at years end, they will all three be up there.

USCw sucks. Stanford could potentially beat LSU.

Considering they've beaten USCw 4 times in a row?

Yeah, I think Stanford is a legit team.
If you knew any football, you'd see they play physical football. Out of all the west coast teams, Stanford is the closest thing to an SEC team as you can get. Just watch their lines play.
Know how to watch football before you rant...

Just like Andrew Luck wasn't legit? Get out of here kid. And rankings don't necessarily determine how good a team is, but how there season plays out.

Agreed. Not legit.
This is just another case of the pollsters trying to predict where teams will finish based on their schedule instead of who is really the best teams. There are more teams on LSU's schedule capable of beating the Tigers(4-5), than teams on Stanford's schedule capable of beating them (1 or 2). Thus they are ranked higher because they are expected to have a better record.... even though everyone knows LSU would murder Stanford's schedule (and probably be favored in a head to head game). Its a major flaw in the college football polling system.
The preseason polls should be made by the people who really have to put up or shut up-Las Vegas odds.

If you are basing this off last year, did you see LSU vs Ole Miss and Arkansas?

And Clemson.

Their lines play phsyical? Can you name one lineman on either side of the ball that was drafted without looking it up? I didnt think so... dude yes, relatively speaking they are a physical team, but compared to what.. Oregon's offensive play style? I mean they got out physical-ed by a Notre Dame team that Alabama raped... and we were just as physical if not more than alabama last year. I remember pounding the ball repeatedly at them and they couldnt stop it.

Did you watch LSU vs Clemson? LSU vs Bama in the Natty game? LSU vs UNC? Those were all 1 game examples of LSU not playing their best game just like that stanford game.

yea idiot... those games you mention were closer than expected not because of the teams ability... but the poor offensive coaching / play calling. Any team can compete when they know exactly what you're doing on 9 out of 10 play calls. kinda levels the playing field a little bit, wouldnt ya say?

I see people with this opinion often, but Stanford averaged exactly 2/10 of a yard more per game than LSU.
374.43 to our 374.23 and had only 3 more td's last year while playing an extra game.
For some reason, Stanford's offense is considered legit and ours is awful.
And before someone misinterprets that last sentence, I'm not saying our offense is legit by any stretch.
