Charles Brown locks up LT position

Remember the New Orleans Saints' left tackle competition, that supposedly sticky wicket in the offensive line that once caused Sean Payton to lose sleep at night? Well, what was supposed to be one of the most scrutinized battles in Saints training camp, a chained-linked octagon between Charles Brown, Jason Smith and Terron Armstead, has become a non-issue. Nary a word is mentioned about it these days, largely because Brown has taken the job by the throat and claimed it for his own.

Another example of the Saints nailing it when picking players for the offense. If only they could get some of that mojo for the defense!

Nice... Hopefully he keeps it locked down all season.

I don't think there was ever much doubt. Payton praised Brown's abilities right after he was drafted. He has also been very solid in the limited playing time he has seen.
Payton just used Parcell type mind tactics to motivate Brown to grab the starting job by the horns. Just another example of why Payton is great at what he does & why he missed so much last season.

I'm curious how his performance goes this year especially considering I believe he's a UFA next year. If he does play well this year, do we hope Armstead has enough development? I guess that and how much Brown wants will really set it in motion either way

I just he hope he can actually make it out the preseason. Beyond that, it would be an improvement considering how injury prone he is.

I think they've done a much better job in the last two drafts in picking defensive personnel. I believe Hicks & Jenkins along with Jordan will anchor the D-Line for the next several seasons.
After a slow start & being thrown in fire early, Corey White played very solid & with a lot of confidence in the second half of the season before getting injured. We haven't heard much about him from camp but one can only imagine that he's getting better.
Vacarro maybe end being a player we look back on as a player that everyone will say, man, I'm glad we drafted this guy. He has the potential & make up to be a star at his position.
The one concern is definitely OLB. We have yet to see Galette or Wilson & both have missed practice time with injuries. For the 3-4 to work, you have to have monsters upfront & athletic players on the outside. Galette & Wilson just may be those types of players but it would be nice to get some game changers at that position moving forward.

Only reason it was ever a question is because Brown couldn't stay healthy

My only two Brown memories have been of him getting his shite pushed in by Chris Long and whiffing on a defender on that goalline play @ GB to open the 2011 season. Obviously it's easier to stand out as an OT when you're playing poorly, but it's not like he's been on the field a ton.
