Welding on lower unit?

I struck the bridge of a small battleship with my yammie 225...
It knocked two chunks out... The biggest being about an inch long and almost half inch deep.
Didnt notice any performance difference yet but havent really been in clean water yet.
Can it / should it be welded up?

File it down smooth, and keep on fishing.

I would probably roll with it.

Maybe grind off and sharp burrs and then don't worry about it.

if you took enough of the skeg off, instead of the motor bumping and riding over the next obstruction, your prop will take the hit, and destroy it and your internals.
edit: I did once have a lower unit with a home made skeg welded on it (before I got it), so it is doable.

It's now broken in! As others have said, file it and keep on truckin'. Now next time you hit an oyster bed in the fall/winter you won't feel so bad.
