Do you keep the factory mags in your 1911, or do you toss them and go with Wilson Combats? I keep hearing factory mags from almost all brands are horrible, and Wilsons are the most reliable. Opinions?

I used Wilson Combats in my kimber. Kimber mags are POS.

I keep my factory mags but when I buy new mags I buy Wilson combat mags.
But I will say I have not had an issue with my Springfield or Smith and Wesson factory mags.

Wilson.
I had two crappy Colt mags and one bad Ed Brown mag.
Never a bad Wilson mag.

Wilson or McCormick power mags. I keep the stock mags but they go to the bottom of the stack never to be seen again.

I have 5 McCormick Power Mags and never had a problem.

Wilson, McCormick, or Tripp. I prefre Wilson 47T for 10rd and Tripp for the 8rd.

I acquired one with a pistol and it never acted right. They have a stellar rep so I was confused by my experience. I chalked it up to a old/weak spring?

Sure is nice knowing that Glock prides themselves on excellent factory magazines. I would hate to know I had a brand new gun and my factory mags weren't even fit for use.

I have had success with pretty much any mag except some factory mags.
The main thing I look for is a good spring and a good follower. Wilson springs and followers are typically the best. I have these spring-and-follower kits in all 3 of my Checkmate 10 round mags. I like the Checkmates but the factory spring was so weak that after a few 100 rounds it wouldn't lock the slide open. That's a big no-no for me.
But I've found Wilson and CMC to be the best.

My Valor came with one of those but it has acted finicky on occasion. What would you recommend to fix the problem, meaning what is the first thing to address/rule out?
