I never played past Yellow, Blue, and Red. I couldn't tell you jack shite about pokemon outside of the first 151. It was just one of those things I grew out of pretty young as a kid. But I LOVE me some original pokemon. Is there any real reason to play a newer generation of pokemon? To me it seems like the same game with a new face and a new generation of increasingly more retarded pokemon.

ETA: That being said, I like the three legendary dogs. Not sure what generation they are from, and I"m not even sure of their names. I know Entei was one. I think Raikou was another. The blue one slips me, though. Suicune?

Gold/silver were fricking great games too. Every bit as good as yellow and blue/red.

When did those come out? I've been entertaining the option of actually playing one of the newer ones. Fire Red and Leaf Green have kept me happy for years, but if Pokemon games are still selling after all of these years, they must be doing something right.

ETA: I have a hard time liking the newer pokemon generations mainly because the "legendary" pokemon in each generation don't look all that great. A fricking whale? Seriously?

Gold and Silver had 16 badges which was cool. Those were the last I played.

R/B/Y have the nostalgia of being the first, but objectively I'd say that G/S captured the essence of the originals and brought a good bit more to the table.

Looks like I'll be playing one of the two in the near future.

The original is still fricking awesome to me, all the others I really could careless. Gold and silver are ok just not the same after that I grew out of it, but I could still play the originals for hours

Second gen was by far the best, imo. Getting to go through Kanto after thinking you had beat the game? Nothing beats that feeling

The original 151 is my favorite generation. I also like gold/silver as well.

I like the designs of the Pokemon in first generation the most, but the games get progressively better.

Clearly the first. The second generation from what I've seen has some decent ones, but the crap from the later generations is just terrible. None of those are redeemable really. It's just a matter of time before this is an evolutionary line: Belt buckle->Belt->Suspenders.

I only had pokemon Red back when I was a kid.

I was the first one of my friends to clear the game. Got Mewtwo first. Proceeded to curb stomp all of my friends for a few weeks until they caught up to me. Those were the glory days. The highlight of the whole school year was going on a field trip where we got to bring game boys on the charter bus and hook up the link cables.

So to answer the question in the OP, definitely by a long shot the first one. I plugged up pokemon red the other day and found out I still had the 5 of the original 6 I cleared the game with the first time in my party. Teared up a lil bit.

My cousin went to one of those Pokemon conventions and got Mew. I told him to let me borrow Mew for a day to take it to school and show it off. Never gave it back.

Gold/Silver were the last ones I really got into. I think that's when it moved to 250 Pokemon. I got Crystal too, but don't remember the difference or anything after.
I can't imagine dealing with the 500+ they have now

I found out the trick to get mew on pokemon blue and sold my friends level 5 mews for $10

Takes fricking forever to go through the glitch. And then I got pokemon stadium with the little turbo speed gameboy thingy and business became great. EVERYBODY for 10 miles around had a mew
