re: Why doesn't every CFB team run the Air raid/Spread, etc. ?

However, the Air Raid puts more pressure on the D, so wouldn't running this scheme with those elite players yield better results since it's the hardest scheme to defend?
I think it depends. These elite teams that you're talking about usually play against other elite teams. And elite defenses have had a pretty successful history against the Air Raid as far as I can tell. I simply don't think there is one scheme that is hardest to defend.

In terms of our defense?
Georgia will score the most points, followed by Alabama, then A&M.

I can see UGA, but Bama? Historically our D does pretty well against Bama's offense.
UGA will either hang a lot of points or flop. They like their WRs, but I still think the jury's out on them. Plus, Murray is streaky as a passer. He was hot in the Bama game, but really sucked in the USCe and UF games. It just depends on which Aaron Murray shows up.

No one has ever run an Air Raid system and bring in the amount of talent that TAMU is bringing in now. We shall see.

A&M's current version of the Air-Raid that includes a mobile QB and legit big-bodied RBs may be the closest thing to unstoppable we'll see in college football... when it's clicking, there's no defense (regardless of talent level) they can't score on, IMO.

With an accurate QB, Great WR, Great RB and a good OL EVERY offense would be successful. No matter the scheme.
And a pro style would help you control the game.

It makes teams that run it more prone to turnovers and have problems closing out games with the lead. Also harder to run that offense in the cold weather when the football gets slick.
Defense wins championships in college football and the pro-style offense puts a team's defense in the best position to succeed.

Auburn shut down their offense.
LSU shut down their offense, dominated the 2nd half, and didn't pass the ball worth a shite. Add a Qb/offense that could throw the ball, and this thread would have been over before it started.
Outside of Oregon, the air raid has been an effective system to allow teams with a size or talent disadvantage to compete with bigger/better teams. However, with adequate time to understand the system, elite defenses can shut it down (once again, see Oregon).

Am I the only one that realizes this guy was answring my question and not saying running the ball doesn't allow you to control the game?
Read the OP title: Why doesn't every CFB team run the air raid/spread?
Mick's answer: Can't control the game via running the ball.
See?

Oregon isn't a air raid team they run it more than anything.

Yep. People need to realize that spread offense does not necessarily mean air raid.
Mike Leach's offense is the air raid.

There reason? Because it won't beat the best defenses with any consistency.
It gives teams a chance that might not otherwise have a chance, but so does the triple option, which, on paper, is the greatest offense every designed.
Using your logic, everyone should be running the triple option because it's schematically superior on a white board.

Since Florida's run and shoot, Missouri, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State are the closest things to winning it all with that offense.

not true at all... when Mettenburger (and his 300 yards passing) clicked last year against Bama they couldn't even score 20 points... A&M had that midway through the 1st quarter.
you're an idiot if you don't think their offense's ceiling is higher when everyone's on the same page, as opposed to more traditional offenses.

well, to be fair, OU did win an NC with the Air-Raid offense (and a nasty defense).
It takes both sides of the ball to win it all.

Trying to find season stats on the 2000 Oklahoma team, but I can't.
Not saying they were or were not an air raid team..because I'm not sure..I was 10 at that time.

I guarantee you that had Cam Newton gone to Ga Tech instead of Auburn, Tech would have won a NC.
