quote:you obviously don't know much about Holy Cross, and think very highly of BM. HC has been around since the 1870's, I would think being a legacy there means a bit more than at BM, which has been around in its current state, for 90 years less than HC
Also, I think the idea of being a legacy at those schools don't matter as much as they do with BM and Jes

BM has over 400 more kids than HC right now. HC enrollment is not up. It might be up from what it was on the NEW campus, but at 500 high school kids, HC has less than they did pre katrina. BM moved into 7th grade because a lot of the grammar schools dropped 8th grade and may soon drop 7th so they got ahead of the schedule. BM is still turning away kids, I know for a fact, so they aren't hurting that bad.

Yeah, the demand to get into Jesuit and BM is unmatched by the other Catholic schools on the South Shore.

I don't give two craps about either school. I talk to a lot of parents though. HC is in the same boat as Shaw and Rummel. They attract middle class kids and with the amount of people on tight budgets right now money talks over loyalty. Cheaper tuition (or free tuition) is more important than where you went to school.

Once again, that is only in reference to the NEW campus.

it wil be higher this year than it has been since the 80's, so I don't get your reference to the new campus. HS is in a better position now than it was before Katrina

CSB. I have family that works for the Archdiocese though. I also have friends that teach/coach at a couple Archdiocese schools whom I talk to all the time about their schools. I'm not just reading NOLA articles and commenting.

Riddle me this, intimate knowledge guy, why do you say BM is the one in trouble? They are still turning kids away, you would think they would be taking anybody if they were in trouble. I don't many kids that are being turned away from HC. Also, I think now that HC has all those great facilities it's time for the coaches to step up. Whens the last time HC was in a championship game?
And since you know so much about the number at HC, how many of these new kids are paying in full with no "scholarships?"

Redemptorist is going through a dry spell... They'll be back.

I'm excited to watch 3A powerhouse Patterson play BM this year.

Rummel and Shaw, and probably HC too, also are struggling because they cater to a lot of middle class working families and there aren't many rich alumni giving back. Also, I think the idea of being a legacy at those schools don't matter as much as they do with BM and Jes. Plenty of Shaw and Rummel grads would send their kids to other schools, especially the charters, without thinking too much about it.
All private schools are seeing a dip in enrollment......

Is Redemptorist hosting or playing in the annual Catholic Jamboree this school year? Their schedule on website says they are playing U-High for Jamboree on 8/30
Posted on 7/28/13 at 11:31 pm to Doodlebuggy
RHS is gonna play UHigh for the jamboree and CHS is playing prob st mikes at RHS.
Guess its not the all catholic jamboree anymore.

Holy Cross is going to be fine, they are outpacing their own enrollment projections. In a few years they will be back to where they were in the 60's as one of the top 3 Catholic sports programs in the city.
