those all look terrible except maybe Harding/Kerrigan
but then again some of the original 30 for 30 I thought I wouldn't like and I really enjoyed.

Tonya And Nancy seems like the antithesis of what 30 For 30 is for. It's a story that's been covered WAY out of proportion to its actual impact past the '94 Winter Games.
This is different from the June 17, 1994, episode because that was about all the big stuff in sports going on that day overshadowed by the OJ Bronco chase, not about the OJ case itself which has been covered repeatedly over 20 years.
Great point. Didn't think about the reason they started doing these in the first place.

October 8. Free Spirits. This one is going to look at the Spirits of St Louis leading into the NBA/ABA merger, and how the team is still existing and making money for their owners today. It's directed by Daniel H. Forer.
Bob Costas better be a part of this.

Hate to say it, but after looking at all the things we've seen over the years I would imagine PED's played a part in that.

Whole lot of people don't like boxing anymore I guess? No Mas should be pretty cool and if you like or liked boxing, Duran and Sugar should interest you.

Unfortunately.. the death of heavyweight boxing was the death of boxing to many people.

That's a great lineup *except* Kerrigan-Harding.
Those are some great stories they'll be telling.

I just read about the Spirts of St. Louis, and those guys were either really smart or really lucky. Almost 15m a year without owning a team. Brilliant!

I know I barely watch boxing anymore since those days. But I'm still interested in a story about a classic fight(s).
It is sad though, I was big time into boxing. Would order PPV fairly often, but now I don't even know who's who except for that annoying frick Mayweather. Hopefully, there's a rejuvenation down the line and we get a string of big boys who want to box again.

These don't seem nearly as epic IMO. Figure skating, hockey, and boxing dont really interest me unfortunately.

Yeah, the series has fallen off a bit. But the one about the 1983 NFL draft was pretty good.

Wow...all look pretty uninteresting

These guys were geniuses. They where either very forward looking or very lucky, I'd guess both.

quote:On a podcast after the piece ran, i believe Simmons said the oral history would probably be the definitive telling of that story for a really long time. he would love to make a documentary about it, but it would be basically impossible because the NBA owns all the footage and would never give permission to use it.
About eight months ago, Jonathan Abrams of Grantland did an oral history on the Pistons-Pacers-Fans fight known as the ‘Malice in the Palace’.

Wasn't the whole point of 30 for 30 to be the 30 biggest stories that changed sports in ESPNs first 30 years? There has to be over 50 of these things by now. ESPN sure does know how to run something into the ground.

Yes.

Well, to justify this, they've labeled the next set "Volume 2," which is 30 additional stories about the last 30 years
