I wouldn't mind if Sony changed their mind and banned used sales. The only issue I have with that banishment is that it takes away (sort of) my right to resell the game. Be it at a garage sale, gamestop, or Craigslist. I would assume there would be an online marketplace to exchange licenses, though.
I think a big hindrance to this is that it alienates retailers in a somewhat transition period of the industry. Gaming is moving into a digital ecosystem, but there just isn't the infrastructure to support it in the states, much less worldwide. So they will still need retailers to sell their games. As of right now, gamestop is probably the biggest retailer of games. As a manufacturer, you can't just tell a retailer, much less your biggest one, to frick off when you need them in order to reach your entire audience.

No one was. Xbone was still going to allow used games sales just on a limited basis and also forcing Gamestop to share the second hand pie.

You can buy a digital download code from anywhere. You don't need physical locations for that.

If they do that, they'll lose half their consumers in a year, me included.
