Anyone sold a guitar to Guitar Center?

They are buying used instruments this weekend and I was curious how much they lowball. For example, if you had a guitar with list price = $2,000, sales price = $1,500, and is in mint condition, what would they offer? Was curious as, though less than what you might get from an individual, you get out of dealing with the hastles of advertising, hooking with up unknown customers, their attempted lowballing, etc. Plus GC will give an additional 15% off their items if you apply proceeds to a new purchase instead of taking cash.

If the prices they offer are anything like the cymbal prices, you are much better off selling on Craigslist or eBay. I felt disrespected when I tried to sell them a 3 month old Paiste 2002 ride.

Probably $600-$700.

I tried to sell my '95 Stratocaster to GC a few years ago. It was in good to very good condition. They offered me $45.

I only go to GC to look and try out the products then buy it from somewhere else.

Mexican. I ended up selling it on Craigslist for $200 (and included a travel bag and cable). The GC offer inspired me to get off my butt and put a little effort into selling it lol

Thx to all. I'll just hang on to it and do CL, which I've used before, or eBay, maybe with a reasonable reserve.

Yeah they'll probably give you 30-50% of the actual value. If you've got a $1500 guitar sell it on eBay.
What kind of guitar is it, if you don't mind me asking?

eBay seems to be the place to make money for instruments
Just depends on the demand for it
I find I can negotiate much better from Craigslist

Take the price that you think your guitar might be worth. Lower it a bit and then cut that number in half. That is what they will give you

They offered me $90 for a very lightly used, maybe 9 month old set of 14" new beats. I laughed and walked out.

If I didn't know Erie was such a nice dude, I would have fought him when I got my quote.

Definitely. I can buy cymbals for less than what GC offers me for trades. Got a lightly used sweet ride for like $110 off there.

This too. Which sucks for me because 90% of the drum stuff on CL in my area is full sets. That or turd cymbals.
