Thomas ranks #3 out of all RBs the past 5 years in overall grade by PFF- just ahead of Arian Foster & Marshawn Lynch.

3. Pierre Thomas, New Orleans Saints (+31.0)

By far the biggest surprise of the list is Pierre Thomas of the Saints ranking third. Each of the last five years, Thomas has been part of a running back rotation, and he has been as consistent as you can be.

Only 5.7% of Thomas’ carries have been for a loss of yards, which is the lowest rate for backs with at least 300 carries. On top of that, 48.6% of his carries have gone for 4 or more yards, which is the second-highest rate behind C.J. Spiller. In addition, he has never had a season with more than one fumble. Thomas isn’t the kind of player to have breakaway runs for huge gains which hurts his yards per attempt. While you’re not going to see Thomas too often on the highlight reel, he simply gets the job done of moving the ball down the field.

He ranks #2 of all RBs as a receiver also.

Would love for the dude to get another SB TD on his resume. He's the essence of what a "team player" is IMO. He is still at a friendly $2.5mil & $2.9mil cap hit this season and 2014. I complained about some second contracts in the Smith, Vilma, Harper thread. The PT23 extension deal was one of the better second contracts over the past 7 years.

PT23

He really is a great all around back. He seems to do everything well.

I have a feeling he'll be our main back now that Payton is back and ivory was shipped off. Ingram/Sproles will spell.

After all the background noise the year before his extension I was surprised we signed him for that number. They made it sound like the Reggie Bush negotiations.

The only that has slowed him down the last few years is injuries.

It still frustrates the hell out of me how he is being supplanted by bag o' dicks Ingram. Pierre has sick YAC and almost never goes down on first contact. Screen game is unreal. He has the best vision of a back I have seen in recent years and has mad balance working that low COG to perfection. He ma' boyfran!!!

Man the guys good, but #3 overall in the last 5 years? I think his lack of injuries has helped him here too. Extremely surprising for me.

I love me some PT23! When watching him, he reminds me of all the old Gale Sayers films.
