We have a small herd of deer that we have been feeding in the back yard for a few years now. We have been able to see some cool things while sitting at our kitchen table having breakfast or dinner or while we were swimming.
Anyway. In the pictures you will see 2 little spotted fawns with their mom. We saw these 2 within a couple of hours of being born (unfortunately we didn't get pictures that day) but you could tell by their lack of coordination and the fact that their mom was still licking them up. So we watched them grow up from babies. We believe that their mom died within a month or so after they were born because she just disappeared one day but the babies were still hanging around. I started putting out extra food for them when I saw what was going on and they stuck around ever since.
Well this year is their 1st year pushing antlers and it has been a blast watching them grow.

That last picture was taking a few weeks ago. They are both nice little 6 pointers right now.

Well they are well past that now. I missed my chance for that...
Our little herd that hangs around out there seems to produce 6 or so babies a year though so ....

Yeh..shite is nice! No bugs, no leaves, pool stays clean. We have a big lanai out back with a TV and a big table and shite...we spend a ton of time out there. And if that screen wasn't there...the bugs would carry our arse away!

Have you prepared yourself mentally for the day one of them is killed just because of his antlers?

I kill deer all the time..no big deal to me. But I doubt this will ever happen. I live in a gated community and obviously you can't hunt in here. To the back of the subdivision it's all protected swamp land. Obviously it's possible but getting hit by a car is a much bigger risk than getting harvested for these deer.

The silence of a bow is a beautiful thing some times. I little muffled thump, and a smack and neighborhood bambi is on the dinner table. Fingerlickin good.

Knowing my luck, the deer would go ape shite when shot, run through someone screened in pool area, fall in the pool with an arrow sticking out, fill their pool with blood and their 5 year old daughter would walk out to find all of that.

I don't know if I'd be able to resist the urge to let an arrow fly.
Does will kick bucks to the curb fairly early, so that may have been the case.

This would have been at about a month or so. I guess it's possible but it was odd that we never saw her again. We only have about 15 deer that visit the back yard here almost daily and she stood out because she was the bigger of all of the does with a real long face. I guess she could have hauled arse and left her area to get away from them. We just assumed something happened to her.

Also,
I am pretty sure that this was their dad. He was the dominate buck around here during the time their mom woulda got knocked up.
Not a huge deer but he was a good looking deer. Just like any other dominate buck, we didn't see him nearly as often. I'm curious what the twins will do this year when the temps start to drop.
