The most important part of that goal is that its what, 88th minute? And we need it to advance. Kop end. Absolutely incredible.

Can you explain? I don't know the circumstances surrounding that goal. Obviously a fantastic strike.

Still think Zizou's is MUCH better, given the volley he had to deal with.

We were losing on differential in group play. Olympiakos advances over Liverpool if we don't win by 2. Time is running out (Just looked it up - the 86th minute), and Gerrard comes up with that to put us through to the knockout stages.

We go on to win the entire thing. It was 2005.

Shocking. Though every single thing about Essien's was harder and he still hit a better ball.

I wouldn't say that, but having to elevate it over a CB who's in your face is not easy by any means. I think that's being downplayed here.

Significantly further out, running toward the ball, defender running at him vs. standing still with no pressure whatsoever from inside the box.

After re-watching them both it's actually not even really close. Which, of course, is why your response is "LULZ".

Essien's was certainly difficult, but the technique and precision in Zidane's in the CL final is just astounding. Most professionals would struggle to just make decent contact with that ball.

I really don't know how it's possible to watch the two and surmise that Zidane's was better but I'll digress.

The Gerrard goal is one of my go to Youtube watches btw.

"Better" is a very subjective term. Zidane's was more difficult and required better technique and timing (in my opinion), though Essien's is certainly top drawer stuff.

I've played enough to know that it's harder to hit a volley while running from 25 yards out with a man running right at you than it is to hit one from 15 yards out standing still with all the space in the world.

Anyhow, since it was Zidane people can't be objective and that's fine. Also, don't get me wrong. I love me some Zizou, greatest player I've ever seen.

I completely get what you´re saying. I think there was a level of luck in that, and Zizou´s not so much so. Not that Essien´s goal was blind luck mind you, simply, the stars aligned, and enabled his intention.

That´s where I draw that it´s superior.

Again, I´ve said it to no end, Essien´s goal was absolutely amazing.

It´s got nothing to do with homerism, I´m habitually not that way.
