How are you supposed to deeply water a flower bed if it is covered with mulch?

Punch deep holes at different spot before watering?

Slow watering. If you dump water, it just runs off

So just leave the hose running in different spots for a while?

Saturate the mulch and water will flow right through it...gotta do it slowly, though...

What would I do with a shovel? Remove the mulch? I have to remove the mulch every time I water the flower bed?

No need to be an arse.

Use your hands or a rake and make a trench 4 inches wide running the length of flower bed. Lay a soaker hose in that trench and use rake or hands to cover soaker hose with the mulch. When digging the trench there is no need to dig dirt up. Just remove enough mulch to hide the soaker hose.

Are you familiar with what a soaker hose is?

I would just lay a soaker hose or sprinkle slowly over the top of it all...try it, it will work fine...

No, I'm not. Googling now.

Is that something you leave in place?

Soaker hose looks like a regular hose, but is made of ground rubber that is pressed together, so it is porous....I leave them stretched around my house all summer and just hook up the appropriate one for the beds that I want to water...

Ah okay. Got the gist of it.

I was referring to watering by hand. I guess I should just get one of these things. I have a faucet nearby that would be convenient.

Thanks!

Sorry dude. Young adult just getting into gardening and such. My parents never had flower beds or used soaker hoses.

When else in a typical person's life experiences would you come across them?

Don't sweat it man. Some people have different experiences growing up. I know what a soaker hose is because my uncle would whip me with one if I didn't hug him just right.

just remove the mulch and set up a soaker hose. I dont have any mulch on my raised beds and im not having any issues. I just water more frequently i guess.

for next year...
put your plants in the soil, set up the soaker hose (little black rubber hose with tiny perforations in it), top with mulch.

Soaker hoses just water exactly where they lay. Set up a micro-irrigation system. Put it on a timer. Do nothing else.

And be patient...it'll work (just don't forget about it and run up your water bill )
